Who here like to updated movies based on mythology figures like Hercules, Robin Hood, Jason and the Argonauts, Sinbad and a few others? Sorta like what they are doing for Beuwolf

they did a Hercules one in 2000/2001 it was very well done.

But I would like to see a new version of Robin hood or even Sinbad!

I am talking about doing theatrical version of mythology movies not miniseries like what mentioned.

Robin Hood and Sinbad would the ones I would want to see.

Thing is movies based on mythology always update the characters so that they'll supposedly be more appealing to 21st century audiences, and in doing so you kind of lose the charm of the myth (and I'm actually a fan of the mostly inaccurate Hercules movies made by the Italians in the 1950s and 60s).

i wouldn't mind seeing a remake of the hercules movie which starred lou ferigno or a return to making amazon women movies:ninja:

Hercules
Sinbad
Robin Hood
Lone Ranger
Buck Rogers
Flash Gordon

I want an Iliad film. Troy was close, but VERY inaccurate and there were no gods involved.
There needs to be a Hercules film where they actually get the characters right. The closest we've actually had is the TV show. The TV movie and the cartoon were WAY off.

The King Must Die would make a great film also. It's about Theseus and the Labyrinth, but is set in a realistic setting.
Instead of the Minotaur, there are scenes of bull-leaping, which is actually what happened in Knossos
There's also a sequel called the Bull from the Sea.

I would love for more movies based on mythology.. Robin Hood, Hercules.. stuff to do with the greek gods...

Sean Bean for Robin Hood and Rufus Sewell for the Sheriff.. make him a kinda ranger-esque anti-hero and explore what made him a legend, kinda like the bbc series.. only better. I always thought that would be cool..

Wasn't Keanu Reeves suppose to be playing Sibad in a new movie? or is that not happening anymore..

I wanna do a movie based on the life of achilles which will GREATLY involve the iliad. My version of the Iliad will be extremely faithful to the text; well, as faithful as I can get it since there's so many translations. But sadly, since im just a senior in highschool there's a probability that someone will do it before me.

As much as I hate remakes, I'd love to see a full out balls to the wall remake of Clash of the Titans.

Are there any stories about Achilles other than being dipped in the river, etc., as a child and those about the Trojan War?

Mythology movies are tough because the dialogue is not aas intriguing as it used to be. I really would like to see the Odyssey with Sean Bean doing Odysius(sp?) like he did in Troy.

I think using them as a template for new movies is a good move. Think O Brother Where Art Thou? which is a take on The Odyssey. I think it would be cool to see Sinbad as a space pirate a la Han Solo/Mac Reynolds or an Odyssey type story with the Civil War taking the place of the Trojan War (except more Good the Bad and The Ugly style than Cold Moutain style)

Although I would really like to see a true to the book version of Robin Hood. Kevin Costner one was ok but i found it kinda cheesy and downplayed

are you reffering to HERCULES THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS?

The Disney Hercules movie is not so much based on legend as it is based on Superman the Movie.

I'd want to see some movies made based on Greek mythology (they don't seem to be as common now) or remakes/new versions of Sinbad/Jason & the Argonauts/Clash of the Titans.

Excalibur-
Christian Bale as Arthur.
Ian Mc Kellan as Merlin.
Morgan Delafay as Cate Blanchet.
Gwen- as Naomi Watts.
Lancelot-as David Wendham.

Robin Hood-
Robin as Viggo Mortenson.
Maid Marian as Eva Green.
Sheriff Of Nottingham as Johnny Depp.
Prince John as Eric Bana.
King Richard as Hugo Weaving.
Frier Tuck- Mark Addy.
Little John- Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
Hazeem- Djimon Hounsou.

These casting would make two killer remakes.

I 'd like to see a really good Treasure Island done since Pirates Of The Caribbean is such a rave now.

Clash Of The Titans with Peter Jackson might be sweet.
The 10 Commandments.
Masters Of The Universe- Eternia based.
The Last Star Fighter.
Creature From The Black Lagoon.
2001 A Space Odessey.

The only films you mentioned that have anything to do with Mythology are the first two.
The last ones don't count, since they are stories that were recently created.
A myth is a story passed down through oral tradition to each generation.
the last 4 you mentioned were only created last century.

Robin Hood, King Arthur, Hercules. These are myths because they are OLD, very old, stories passed down through the years.

And xwolverine2, Xena doesn't count because she never existed before the TV series. She's a new character created for the Hercules TV show.

Hmm...another myth...Oedipus would make a great film actually. And now that were moving into this morally ambigious time, it wouldn't cause a big shock like it would if it were made 40 years ago.

true enough but i wouldn't mind a xena remake either:ninja:

I'd love to see a pretty faithful Hercules movie and an Excalibur remake.

Well, there's another version of Achilles's invulnerability in which he was covered in ambrose and placed in a pit of fire by his mother to remove his mortal weakness but was stopped by his father due to the fact that he lost many sons - Achilles's brothers - to this.

As far as there being any more stories about Achilles, there aren't really that many. There's a story of him killing an Amazon during the Trojan War as well as a story of him getting killed by an Amazon. There are two different versions of where he goes after his death; one being him crossing over the river styx and the other being that he falls in love with Helen in the Elysium(sp?)fields.

But there are alot of interesting little tidbits during his life (imo) that are not well known. For example, he and Ajax the greater - who is Achilles's cousin btw -both were trained by chiron at the same time. Another being how he almost b!tchslapped Odysseus for, a lack of better words, calling him a coward. Ironically it was Odysseus's choice words that made Achilles go to war.

I'm sure there are many Greek mythology buffs that know more than I do on this matter, though.

I'd like to see something like Black Orpheus done for other myths.
