She was mad about the director situation... this isn't news. She wanted out.She didn't really "leave" the MCU per se. They just chose not to include her in Ragnarok after the poor reception to the character in TDW, and the fact that the movie was set almost entirely off Earth.
FWIW, Feige has said that she always stayed in contact with Marvel and was always open to returning if they wanted her.

With Jane's cancer now all but confirmed, I suspect that Jane's visit to New Asgard is to say goodbye to Thor and finally find closure with him.
Yeah there's literally no point after that SDCC announcement. They couldn't exactly keep it secret after this:

Thats overly simple.
From what i read, she wanted to take a break from Acting in general when they came around for Thor 2 and sweetened the deal with Patty Jenkins as Director for it.
When that fell through, she only made Thor 2 because of Obligations.
That, the fact that people really werent super into the character...and the fact that Ragnarok was taking place on a different planet, well it is what it is.
I would say it has turned out for the better, we now get her as Mighty Thor...Win/Win situation in the end.
She’s got Thor arms now though.I love Natalie Portman and I think she's a wonderful actress.
But...she is quite literally 5 feet tall. I just think her as Thor is a little odd given how short she is. I'm excited to see her in the movie, but I do wish they went with someone taller.

Mjolnir and the magic of Hollywood will probably grant her a few cm. Also the Mighty Thor isn’t exactly that tall either right…I love Natalie Portman and I think she's a wonderful actress.

I mean Portman was cast 5 years before Jane ever before even became Thor in the comics so its not really something they could foresee.

Who knows she might get her own movie like the new Captain America. She looks so good that I’d love for her to hang around for a few films along with Thor before bowing out to the cancer storyline.
Hopefully she has a good enough showing here for the demand to there. I still want more regular Thor films too.Who knows she might get her own movie like the new Captain America.
and they could finally introduce Enchantress!Hopefully she has a good enough showing here for the demand to there. I still want more regular Thor films too.
