yeah basically in the last 2 yrs broadband was only introduced , at the moment the majority of ppl have 56k. It is much cheaper for me to buy a plane ticket and fly all around the world , than to make an international phone call and talk for the whole day.

Yeah. Personally I try to break up face to face. Not only is it "the right thing to do" but then yo uget to hear their insults about you (which are usually pretty funny to reflect upon in days to come) AND you can then try for the break up sex, which is much more difficult to get if you leave a note.
