Sarah Shahi stars in Reverie which, like Extant, Reverie originated as a spec. Penned by Fisher, it is described as a grounded thriller that follows Mara Kint (Shahi), a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior who became a college professor after facing an unimaginable personal tragedy. But when she’s brought in to save ordinary people who have lost themselves in a highly advanced virtual-reality program in which you can literally live your dreams, she finds that in saving others, she may actually have discovered a way to save herself. Dennis Haysbert, Jessica Lu, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Kathryn Morris co-star.

Yeah, I'm really excited about this. This and The Gifted are my two most anticipated network series.

It must have been an early leak. Basic rundown:

A company makes technology that lets you live in your own custom dreams. People want to stay in the dreams and end up in comas. The company (Dennis Haysbert, specifically) hires Shahi to go in and convince them to come back. She adapts well to the virtual reality world and is better at it than the scientists at the company. She has to bring back some little girl's dad. Cue a good amount of VR sequences, and there are "anomalies" in the VR that they haven't told her about (that are presented as glitches in the dream world, sort of).

As much as I like Shahi and Haysbert, I'm not sure about this one. Just seems like it'll be a little too high concept/gimmicky for most people.

Starts this Wednesday. I’ll give the first episode a looksee.

I was underwhelmed. But maybe it'll get better.

Someone watched a few Black Mirror episodes and Inception and asked themselves how they could do a network version of it. The saving grace of the pilot is Shahi, who does a good job with some of the more dramatic material she's given, and I do generally like the idea of her arc and story. I could see it having potential on paper, but man if it's going to be written like this episode, it is not going to turn out great. The pilot was filled with just boringly delivered exposition and unintentionally funny moments. Plus the green screen and the VR world is terrible. I can see why this looked like it had potential on paper, but the execution is not there for it.

Shahi did the most she could with some very blah melodramatic material. Its generic, but she will keep me watching.

My wife and I watched it last night. We weren't impressed. It's nothing I will go out of my way to watch. At least the old show about people trapped in a VR world, HARSH REALM, was about soldiers fighting in it.

It was awful. I would've turned it off 10 minutes in if Sarah Shahi wasn't in it.

This show was a bit of a disappointment, hopefully episode 2 will be better or I´m giving the series a pass.

Eh, I don't agree at all. I really liked it as pilots go. Granted, the subject matter holds a lot of interest for me, but I think it could have gone a lot worse.

If this was the general reaction, though, that doesn't bode well for its chances at renewal.

It will not last long but for Sarah Shahi I will watch it while it last.

Arguably, the ongoing mystery of Mara’s ghostly niece is intriguing (just barely). But I find the missions-of-the-week to be very uninspired and simplistic. :sleepy:

The problem with Reverie seems to be its weak teleplays - as opposed to the general story concepts. Consider the last episode: Our hero has to enter the mind of a comatose terrorist victim so as to gather clues and try to prevent the next attack. Now arguably, that’s a solid (if somewhat derivative) sci-fi story idea. But as written and executed, the episode was an utter snooze.
