for some ungodly reason, today i managed to unwillingly acquire somekind of spyware annoyance.
it might've been a result of a thing called "utorrent", which i finally figured out how to delete from my comp.
but then some problems still kept pursuing.

this shows up on my screensaver background(although, i am able to change it, but it keeps changing back) :

and this pops up in the little corner every 30 seconds or so...

and basically what it all comes down to is that these things all lead to this frickin' website: windows-privacy-protection.com

it's a frickin' nightmare! i even had to install a new spyware remover called Spyware Terminator. ran the full scan. it still didn't fix the problem. :(
anyone have any suggestions? is there a great spyware program that can destroy this thing??

check the programs in your control panel. if something looks like it don't belong, that could be it.

also download ad-aware and spybot S&D and let it do it's thing. Another thing to do if you know a little of what you are doing is click on Start>Run and type msconfig and then go to the Start up tab and unselect some start up programs that could be doing this and some things that startup that you don't need to, but be careful. You can turn off some things that you need.

so far, i downloaded Spybot. and ran a full scan. didn't help.
i'm gonna try other things, including downloading ad-aware. this is annoying!

well, i downloaded Spybot. that didn't seem to work.
then i downloaded Ad-aware. that didn't seem to work either.
and then i read about Super-Anti Spyware. that actually seemed to work! (for the most part) it got rid of the constant fake-warning pop-ups. and it got rid of that Warning background wallpaper.(once it's gone, just change the background thru control panel/display, and it stays)
the only problem now, is that occasionally there are some pop-up internet browsers that pop up. but i think i can figure out way to eliminate them.

anyway, if you guys ever come across this god-forsaken spyware/virus problem, use Super-Anti Spyware.

Ok, from trying many different methods of killing the problem, and not having to resort to re-formatting my whold harddrive, or having to resort to a complicated procedure such as ComboFix,... i've found the cure.

and i can't take credit for discovering this myself. it was actually recommended by a guy in some other thread i found involving this particular crisis. he recommended 2 programs, in this order:
1) SuperAntiSpyware
2) Malwarebytes

this combo did the trick. and i am forever grateful.

don't waste your time trying other programs such as Spybot and Ad-Aware. -these are great to have and popular, but they can't kill this particular virus/spyware infection.

thank god, everything is back to normal.

damn you spywares and viruses!
Everybody be on the lookout for windows-privacy-protection.com ! it's a major pain in the ass! but follow my steps, and you'll be safe!

ugh! it's back!
how is this possible?? :(

i'm re-scanning again right now. :(

go to the run box and type msconfig
look at the startup processing and use google to see what they are..
if one is a virus or trojan find the root of the virus in the registry and delete the value

i'll keep that in mind, strikezone89.

but i think i was able to tame the beast once again. i downloaded yet another anti-syware/anti-virus program.

You might have something deeper going on that Spybot, Ad-Aware and SuperAntiSpyware are missing. After you are done running those use RegCleaner to clean out your registry. also try a tech support forum and run HiJack this and post the results and tell them what is happening. Sometimes you'll get people who really know the ins and outs of Spyware and Viruses that can show you what to look for.

I use SuperAntiSpyware when I work on the computers at work and it does work really good. I just figure Spybot and AdAware would get the job done.

thanks. i just might look into that.
as for now, my computer is running smoothly with no problems. but i am also weary of the possibility something pops up again in the very near future.
but so far so good, and i didn't have to over-do myself in fixing this.

Now that the problem seems to be under control, let's look at the underlying issue.

This new onset of spyware wouldn't have anything to do with that softcorn porn you were trying to get people to help you download the other day, would it? :o

lol! :D no, i don't think so.
i honestly think i got it from either this forum, or on Yahoo(i was reading an article about The Incredible Hulk movie).(possibly due to an ad or something) those were the only 2 websites i was on during the time i noticed i had somehow unknowingly downloaded a sheisty program called uTorrent. and shortly thereafter, i noticed all the false Security Warning pop-ups(which ultimately lead to the site: windows-privacy-protection.com). that's when i did research on what the hell i was infected with. i was able to get rid of utorrent, by going directly to the .exe, otherwise, it would remain in my system upon rebooting. once that was gone, i had to figure out how to get rid of that main highjacker virus thingy i was infected with. so far, it's tamed.
but i'm running my scans as we speak. just to be thorough.

so, everyone beware of:
uTorrent
windows-privacy-protection.com

You've downloaded most of the commonly recommended stuff, so just keep a close watch on it over the next couple of days, and get into the habit of running those scans on a regular basis.

Kable mentioned HiJack; it's a good program that's helped me get rid of the more problematic stuff, but as he also mentioned, use it in coordination with a wider range of sources ...or you could do some real damage.
