Oh boy.
What an incredible movie.

I was lucky enough to catch Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane in the current Broadway play lke a month ahd a half ago, and I had the time of my life, everything was so great.
It had been like 4 years since I last saw the movie, and I got ahold of the DVD yesterday...

I really can't complain about Nathan or Matthew (it wouldn't really be fair, and let me just say that they ARE the Oscar and Felix of this generation), but Jesus Christ, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.
Their timing and chemistry are ridiculously amazing, in fact, the whole movie (cast, dialogue, music, etc) is just 100% perfect to me.

I loved the movie much much much more now, after seeing the play.
I truly believe it's one of the best comedies of all time, so rewatchable, and I guarantee you, if you like classy comedies, this will ALWAYS put you in a great mood, you'll see

Definitely one of my favorite movies ever.

God bless you Walter and Jack, wherever you are

Agreed, I too love this movie. So many great lines, not only from the guys themselves, but their poker buddies drop some good ones

[in the diner, Felix shivers]
Oscar: What's the matter?
Felix: Cold, it's the air condioner. Why do they turn those things up so high? I'll probably get the flu.
Oscar: Want me to ask them for a blanket?
-------------
Vinnie: I told my wife I'd be home by one the latest, we're making an eight o'clock plane to Florida.
Murray: Who goes to Florida in July?
Vinnie: It's off season. There's no crowds, and you get the best room for one-tenth the price.
Speed: Some vacation, six cheap people in an empty hotel.
---------
Oscar: Murray, lend me twenty dollars or I'll call your wife and tell her you're in Central Park wearing a dress.
------------
Felix: What about Frances?
Oscar: What about Frances?
Felix: Divorce is much harder on the woman. She's all alone, cooped up in the house with two kids. How is she going to meet someone at her age, and where?
Oscar: I dunno, maybe someone will come to the door.

LOL there you go
This movie is such a classic, and you are right, the buddies are so hilarious, each in his own way.
And I love the Coocoo Pigeon sisters too :D

yeah i love the Odd couple :D . i think Lemmon and Mathau invented the concept of buddy commedy ;)

This really is a great movie, and since it doesn't just rely on shock humor, it stays funny no matter how many times you watch it. They definately were one of, if not the greatest team in film history. Even Grumpy Old Men is great because it has both of them in it.

Lemmon and Matthau...Comedy gold.

Damn young kids nowadays need to see some real comedy, not the junk being made today being passed off to them as "comedy"

I agree this was some good stuff

I always loved the series as well

My sentiments exactly :(
Not every new comedy movie is bad, mind you.
But....they just don't make them like they used to, I guess.

post :D

P.S. Walter Mathau rocks as does Jack Lemon

Have you seen Some Like it Hot, Jack Lemmon is great in that

P.S. If you haven't caught on, I haven't seen The Odd Couple before.

Oh man, can you believe I haven't see that?
I need to buy it!

I also need The Fortune Cookie (also directed by Billy Wilder), as it's his first pairing with Walter Matthau.

Yeah, watch The Odd Couple...buy it now :(

Walter Matthau best role, though I haven't seen a ton of his stuff, is in Face in the Crowd his monologue at the end is one of the best scenes in cinematic history! :) Some like it hot is really good and is the only maryolyn monroe movie I've seen, and I always wonder b4 seeing that what was so special about her, my god I don't know what it is but she's Sexuality Personify, she's so sexy... I don't know what it is :(

Yeah, I don't usually go for blondes, but then I remember she was hot :o
Face in the crowd?? Let me do a search on that.

I also keep forgetting that JL and WM were in JFK

JFK's a really cool movie I need to watch that again, I love the Costner...

LOL oh man, I am so getting The Odd Couple 2.
Sure, it doesn't have a great plot like the first one, but Lemon & Matthau are still GOLD.

Here's the trailer...(Click on "Preview...")

The Odd Couple 2

I've seen the sequal I believe when I was a kid.

Oh man, you have to see the original one.
I bought it for like 11 bucks at Wal-Mart, so it's not expensive.
Though I would have paid 30 or 40 bucks for it

Oscar: Blanche used to say to me, "What time do you want dinner" I'd say "I dunno, I'm not hungry". Then 3 o'clock in the morning, I'd wake her up and say "now". I've been one of the highest paid sports writers in the east for the past fourteen years, we saved eight and a half dollars in pennies. I'm never home, I gamble, burn cigar holes in the furniture, drink like a fish, lie to her every chance I get. Then on our tenth wedding anniversary, I took her to the New York Rangers-Detroit Red Wings hockey game where she got hit by a puck! I still can't figure out why she left me, that's how impossible I am

LOL

Oscar Madison: I can't take it anymore, Felix, I'm cracking up. Everything you do irritates me. And when you're not here, the things I know you're gonna do when you come in irritate me. You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can't stand little notes on my pillow. "We're all out of cornflakes. F.U." Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Ungar!

But really, you have to SEE them deliver the lines, absolutely perfect delievery

I love this movie! In my theater directing class I did a scene from it once. The writing is just a slice of fried gold:

Oscar: Now kindly remove that spaghetti from my poker table.
[Felix laughs]
Oscar: What the hell's so funny?
Felix: It's not spaghetti, it's linguini.
[Oscar picks up the linguini and hurls it against the kitchen wall]
Oscar: Now it's garbage.
