That trailer was incredible. Its the first trailer this year to truly blow me away. It looks like it will be a very thought-provoking sci-fi film much like D9 was.

I really think Neil Blomkamp is going to end up being Hollywood's next James Cameron in terms of pushing technical and vfx boundaries in films.

The interior of the city of Elysium reminds me of a cross between the space colonies from Mobile Suit Gundam and a Halo from Halo, only a lot more high-class.

It's probably not a surprise, though, considering they were all inspired in some form by Larry Niven's Ringworld concept.

He really does remind me of the younger James Cameron. A lot if similarities. I really think he is the future of Sci Fi And btw that trailer was awesome!

This trailer really got me excited this looks like a perfect followup to District 9.

and just made these, enjoy!

That silhouette shot stood out the most to me. Just something so appropriately foreboding about it...

As for obvious political themes; I think District 9 was much the same in terms of glaringly obvious allegory, but what made it work was that he didn't take any sides in the story and just let it play out on its own, and avoided coming off preachy. If they can do that here, and avoid cartoonish stereotypes of either side, I think it'll work out fine.

The silhouette shot was badass, glad to see Damon back in an action oriented role.

For someone who loves the idea of space colonies, it's epic to finally see a film representation of a Torus space colony with a real budget.

One day we will build them.

Really? I thought District 9 had straight-up cardboard villains. Between the sadistic mercenary, and the evil executive... all they needed was a cackling mad scientist.

100x100 avvys for anyone to use

Kane I was wondering if I could have an Avvy with the shot of Elysium at 1:19 and the shot of Damon at 1:23 turning around.

Yep. For me it was Gundam, and not so much Halo, but Mass Effect.

I wish I could have an Avvy, I would use that kruger silhouette one. That shot reminds me of something out of Aliens for some reason. Funny since Aliens is Blomkamp's favorite movie.

The space station station stuff was more taken from a lot of concept art and ideas from the 70's. Even the internal stuff. But ya it all looks great.

It looks great, however it makes me think of Freeze stepping out of the shadows in his suit in Arkham at the end of B&R.

Like someone already mentioned all of this truly comes from Larry Niven.

The movie looks great as i knew it would but that actual trailer was kinda lame the way they put it together. Way too much written on text explanation and i swear there's like 3 separate shots of jodie foster just turning around in the exact same way.

I think D9's 1st trailer was a lot better, i've been hyped for this movie for a while but i don't know how much this trailer will do for the masses?

Hmm, so class warfare again as the sci-fi premise. I'm feeling rather blasé about this one. I wasn't the greatest fan of District 9 either. I give this a 50/50 chance if I end up seeing it.

Between Oblivion, Elysium, and hopefully Gravity...it's a good year for retro scifi.

I didn't mean that the Mass Effect or Gundam guys invented it, those are just more contemporary examples.

Gundam at least (the main universe) name checks the actual colony design. So they're giving credit where credit is due.

Thank you as always!

And agreed. Seems the next few years will be a continuing influx of sci-fi. Especially retro style.

I'll give you that, but I was referring more to the prawns themselves. Instead of all being helpless, loving aliens, they portrayed a lot of them as vicious and dangerous, and made their housing situation, while not justified, somewhat understandable.
