I get more and more goosebumps as I re watch the trailer. I honestly can't believe how far Blomkamp stretches the dollar. The majority of the trailer all takes place in the daytime and I don't see a single frame where I sense fear behind his decision making. The confidence of the sweeping shots blaring with sunlight would scare most directors when it comes to VFX but it's just not seen here.

Blomkamp is truly a vfx prodigy in every sense of the word. Making CGI look this tangible in the daylight is no easy task.
100%

More movie studios should be clamering to get him to shoot their films.

Oh wow I just pictured a Blomkamp/Wally Pfister team up.

Yup...that's a sid mead influenced movie design. Looks nice !

Also the setting is very reminiscent of Gunnm

did he said '' bring the bone saw'' ?

hahaha :)

So is Blomkamp officially the new Nolan?

he is the new young Nolan from the Memento times.

i bet if Nolan started at the same year like Blomkamp his first movie would be a low budget effects heavy scifi movie.

Comparing him to Nolan is not too great of a comparison. He's more along the lines of a young Cameron I'd say.

i do think that if Nolan directed his first movie in 2008-2009 that it would be effects heavy. a strong scifi movie. they started at different times.

Not gonna happen, Blomkamp is a digital guy, Pfister a film guy. District 9 shot on Red One, Elysium shot on Red Epic in glorious 5K ^^

One thing that annoys me is premiering the trailer on shi t ty Yahoo movies, their HD quality is absolutely terrible (still better than YT), I don't get it, for a movie as glorious visually as this one, it should be up on Apple first and foremost.

And yeah, Blomkamp is more of a young Cameron.

Blomkamp is a Blomkamp. I see why people want to make comparisons, but it's tough to say where his career will take him, relative to the directors being mentioned.

Well, yeah, he's clearly unique, but still, his favorite movie is Aliens ^^

Which clearly means he wants to be a director like Cameron.

If this movie is big, I can see Microsoft saying alright let's do this. They're very greedy but they're not completely stupid. Let's be honest back when Halo was going to be made he was a complete unknown filmmaker and they were going to throw 150 million at him, thats very risky. Of course its easy now to say man they were stupid, he's incredible. This movie does look fantastic, everything about it looks great except for Jodi Foster but thats just my personal dislike for her.

Based on what I saw in district 9 and what I'm seeing of Elysium in it's first trailer I think NB would rock a Mass Effect movie.

When I called him the new Nolan I meant will he be the new director fanboys start name dropping for every new directing gig.

I thought that was every director that recently made a good movie.

The trailer was fine, looks like good SF. I like the exoskeleton graft to the body, Jodie Foster is amazingly still good looking if not more and I am a sucker for habitable space station stuff.

He was my choice for the new Star Wars

You know, Paul Verhoeven might be a better director to compare him to than some of the others mentioned. Both directors appear to be drawn to special effects-laden sci-fi/action projects that double as social commentaries.

I look forward to seeing Jodie Foster too as she is very selective with her roles these days. She's still great too, as she showed in Carnage.
