Neill Blomkamp's Demonic

The headline with its mention of a 'supernatural horror movie' had me interested, but then later there's mentions of a 'strong sci-fi' component. I was looking forward to seeing him tackle something completely new (for him).

Is it the same one where Taylor Kitsch was attached last year?

No, they mentioned that in the article, that's The Inferno which was pushed back.

I will never not be down for more Blomkamp, even if I haven't liked a movie he's done since District 9.

Right. Because this sounds very similar to Inferno/Archon but with less budget, so I thought this is what it could have evolved to. I definitely want to see more of his stuff, too. He is one of those cases where even if I'm underwhelmed by some of his movies, I see talent and prospects in his work.

Can this be a full-length feature based on his short film Rakka? Pretty please?

Here's hoping that it's a return to form.

Chappie is interesting but a mess. I think I could say the same for most everything he's done. The way District 9 was structured the messy stuff worked because of how hard the film snaps into focus at the end (not to mention that at its core it has the best premise and story of any of his work). His other films and even his shorts all feel a little too half-baked and don't quite come together the way they need to, even while there are plenty of cool ideas and aesthetics.

Elysium is fairly cogent but still felt like it was missing some connective tissue. The bigger issue was it was a high concept action movie with only one decent action sequence. And they set up the exoskeleton stuff so much but barely pay it off.

I am curious about this one. Seems like Blomkamp leaning into making a straight up, low budget horror flick. I could see it going either way where maybe it focuses him into delivering something really effective or maybe it doesn't play to his strengths and just falls flat.

Tease of the tease looks creepy and Blomkamp really needs to get back to form, hope this movie is it.

Why does everyone **** on Chappie? It was a so-so flick but I mean it wasn't like the worst film ever.

I liked that trailer a lot. Seems like maybe a bit of a THE CELL situation going on between Carly Pope's character and her mom played by Nathalie Boltt. Like years ago the mom committed some murders or something and now the daughter has been enlisted to make contact through the brain hook-up.

Obviously there is something else going on through with a demon or something, and the dude with the cross brand on his back.

Loved the sound design with the laugh (Kandyse McClure!) and pretty excited to hear what Ola Strandh does with the score, dude's a legend when it comes to videogame soundtracks (World in Conflict, The Division).

I think Neill showed real promise as a horror director with Zygote for Oats Studios and he's working with a lot of the same Oats crew on this. I really enjoy seeing directors try to push what they can make on small budgets so, yeah, I am hoping this one clicks for Neill.

Trailer didn’t do much for me. Could be good but marketing isn’t off to a good start.

I’m intrigued. Not sure it’ll be a good movie but the teaser makes it look a little different from the usual type of horror movies.

The trailer didn't do anything for me and with Blomkamp's last two films being subpar, at best, I'm keeping my expectations low.

Instantly reminded me of The Cell.
That was a movie Jennifer Lopez did back in 2000.
She was playing a child psychologist who was using this new technology to resolve her patients problem by going into their dreams.
She is recruited by an FBI agent to Literally enter the mind of a Psychotic individual( Vincent Donofrio) who has been kidnapping and drowning young children.
The FBI knows that Donofrio has recently kidnapped another child.
But, he is in a coma.
They want Lopez to extract the boys location from Donofrio's mind before the child drowns.
Good movie.
So maybe this film has something to do with entering people minds.
Maybe.

Trailer is underwhelming but I'm still hoping for Neill to turn things around.
