Umbrella Academy Netflix Orders 'Umbrella Academy' Adaptation

I originally planned on only watching 5 episodes today, but once it got to episode 5 I just couldn't stop. This season is just awesome on so many levels, especially the second half and I love the fact that the showrunners are giving us more time to actually see these characters grow and mature. A lot of great character development this season and the sad part is I already want Season 3 to come out already.

That ending was great lol.

I have about 10 mins to go, and will have a lot more thoughts later. But ****ing hell is this a vast improvement on the first season. All kind of spectacular. I actually ended up loving every one in the group, after only liking half of them the first time around.

Also season 3 totally:

the Legion of Doom with other siblings!

:mrk:

Renew it now Netflix! Renew it now! :argh: :argh: :argh:

Question for fans of the comic: Is the whole series just them trying to prevent various new apocalypses throughout history?
I don't think so. The thing about the comics is they are very different from the show. Like you wouldn't recognize them as being the same source material without the names. :funny:

That's a pretty fair assessment- the comic is more....comic booky , while the series gives the characters real world neuroses and other issues to deal with (e.g. racism) tbh I prefer the series. They are far more flawed than their comic book counterparts, and more engaging

My only criticism is that the Vanya romance plot is a bit drawn out and tends to slow down the momentum of the story. Klaus was one of the highlights of the show although they didn't have anything quite as trippy as his chat with God, again, and Diego got lots of love. I feel like Luther is the one character they struggle to find the right story points for - but his stress eating was funny.

I adored everything about Vanya this season, including that story bit. Every time they went away from it, I was a little sad and was hoping they hurry back. :funny:

I mean I loved her before, but this made her a special kind of endearing to me. Same with Five and Klaus. Both characters I really liked during the first go around, but just love now. Especially Five. Poor kid. That I ended up really like Diego and Luther through me for a loop though. I wasn't expecting that at all. :hehe:

I feel like those two often sucked energy out of the first season and were part of the problem. Though they could have fun moments when bouncing off better characters, I felt myself zoning out a bit. This season though, they were great, I'm quite pleasantly surprised they managed to spin the pair of them around. Like the fist season, Vanya and Five get my favourite stuff by a good distance, but this time around no one dragged it down and I never found myself starting to zone out this time around. Honestly, so long as this show wasn't awful, I was pretty certainly going to like it. And despite writing issues, I loved the first season. But this season is just a huge step up.

Yeah, in season 1 Vanya is really just a victim, whereas in season 2 she's much more in control of herself and her story. I just felt the pacing of her segments was very slow.

The Handler was once again a terrific villain - the swedes I felt needed a little more dialogue to develop their evilness although
it was hilarious watching Diego and Luther try to decipher the message in Swedish

Allison got a much better storyline. Wish they'd given more than just a tease of Reginald Hargreaves' true identity.

Could have used another dance sequence though! I'm thinking of Hazel and ChaCha on acid in the eye lab.

Oh, Darth was right about Vanya getting a girlfriend? No way. :o

Girlfriend or mother figure? A calming, motherly influence outside her dysfunctional family would be a good thing.
I can't believe I was so off the mark this time...

Vanya, Five and Allison definitely got a lot of shine this season and I really thought the running gag of Claus having his own cult was pretty hilarious too. Even Luther and Diego had some great moments and I loved that little tease of the Reggie reveal. I also hope we get to see more of Lila in the future, because I thought she was a pretty interesting character and damn does she have a cool power-set.

Seeing her being unleashed in that final episode was all kinds of EPIC!!!!

So I give Season 1 an 8/10 , as it had some lulls and pointless plotlines, but at times was just sublime (real 10/10 moments, that made me laugh out loud, or cheer, or get a bit choked up). In season 1 some of my standout moments included:

Klaus' introduction

I think we're alone now

Hazel and ChaCha attacking the academy

Stoned Hazel and ChaCha dancing in the eye lab

Child Vanya's nanny massacre

The Ice Cream truck playing "Ride of the Valkyries" :funny:

Klaus meets God, just surreal !

Dancing in the Moonlight- Luther and Allison

Pogo's death

The Bowling Alley battle

Klaus channelling Ben in the finale ( most of the finale tbh)
And,
That moment where Vanya is killing the boys and Allison is slowly revealed with the gun pointed at the back of her head, that was magic - compared to the comic, it's so much more emotional, because you see the anguish in Allison as she decides, and the resolve - to stun, rather than kill Vanya immediately elevates the series above the source material.

I remember seeing Phantom of the Opera in 1989 in the theater where they filmed the finale, and spent a lot if my youth in Toronto- so that made it quite special for me.

So far season 2 is all around better, a 9/10, but I'm not sure if there are any particular sequences that were quite as memorable.
Hmmmm...... possibly the
super match ups against Lila in the finale, Klaus possessing Ben, and Allison rumouring the racist cafe owner
.

I know....I'll rewatch the whole thing, and see if anything stands out more.

Luther's strength and durability have always been a bit of an issue for me as they seem to fluctuate a lot.

My real gripe is how long we'll have to wait for season 3!

I loved season 2 so much. I think the bit that really sold it for me, weirdly, was that
Five got actual fight scenes, and lots of them! I don’t think in season one you really got the sense that he was actually an effective hand-to-hand combatant, but he is! I loved that.
And Vanya and Sissy were adorable!! I loved them so much and I want more of them together.
Also, Klaus and Dave’s scenes. So emotional.
And then that epic final battle! I love Lila and her powers, though I really wish this show would stop putting possible siblings in romantic relationships with each other. I loved Klaus’ line about how “if you have to use the word technically, you’re already in trouble”.
There was so much good stuff this season. I just loved it.

I enjoyed season 2 a lot more.

Five is the mvp for me. What a great character and actor.
Vanya is just meh to me. Her scenes always slowed down the momentum for me. Her stuff got better towards the end, but she might be my least favorite character.
Klaus is awesome.
Allison- Great to see her deal with everything in that era, it gave me a lot of emotional moments.
Ben- I really liked how they made him more useful and just had more moments overall.
Diego- Liked him in season one and even more now.
Luther- His whole look is just so goddamn funny to me. Had some nice moments both comedic/dramatic.
I liked the actor who plays the father. Really dug the whole Pogo in space scene.
I'm glad they brought back the actress who played their ''Mom'', felt like her performance was under rated in the first season, it also helps that she is easy on the eyes. And kinda spoiler about her:

So, are we to assume after she left him, he then went and created a look alike robot of her? Not creepy at all. lol
I was expecting some kind of tragic accident and she dies and then he created a robot etc, but this scenario also works for me.

Yeah, Five was next level in season 2 - both as an intense character and as a badass ( really he's the de facto leader of the team).

This is a minor gripe, but anyone else a bit annoyed/ confused/ or just ????
with the inconsistency in Luther's power ?

If he can punch through a brick wall easily then he should be punching holes through people ( I realise he was holding back to fix fights for Ruby) but how can a human opponent ,even make him bleed, much less KO him when we see him shrug off an RPG in S2 Ep 1 ? He seems to lose fights for the sake of the story alone.

And when did Diego learn to Neo a hail of bullets ?

Everyone else's powers kind of make sense....well I guess "sense" is a relative concept when one of those powers is to unleash Cthulhu through your belly button.

Still love TUA s1 and S2. Don't go chasing waterfalls baby....

I don’t really get why Luther’s power shifts in strength level so much (remember, he was also almost defeated by Hazel in season one!), but Diego’s power I think has always been to be able to redirect things in midair: it’s just that for some reason he only uses knives most of the time. Still, I do think that he should have used this power to deflect bullets back in season one - like when the gunmen were in the theater or the bowling alley in the finale?

I'm on episode 8 and generally this is an improvement. However, is it absolutely necessary to have a music montage every 5-10 minutes? The gimmick is getting outplayed. Also that Swedish they spoke... :funny: It sounded "correct" grammatically but holy **** did it sound awful. Plus that horrible Swedish cover of "Hello".
