New Aliens vs Predator

How would you rate the Predator campaign, compared to AvP 1 & 2?

Well i never played the original AvP, but im sure it falls short. It deff falls short of AvP 2. I mean there just isnt much gameplay there. You jump around, kill a few marines/xenomorphs, smash electrical boxes, activate door locks and then fight a boss fight, thats about it. If you dont stop to look for any of the collectibles you could easily get past the game in 3 hours or under. I didnt think it was going to be that short. I mean theres a few neat scenes where you are in a swamp like area and jumping from tree to tree picking off marines but thats about all the fun there is in that campaign. Multi player is deff this games strong suit. Like i said, if you dont really enjoy multiplayer, i dont think you are going to get much out of this game. I think the campaigns are there only to get you accustomed to the characters for mp(which for me, isnt that big of a deal as i was going into this title for the MP)

I'll say this, anyone going into this game primarily for the single player, you are going to be extremely disappointed. Maybe the Alien and Marine campaigns are better but the Predator campaign is super underwhelming. I finished it in just over 4 hours. Most of the environments are super bland. The only cool thing about it are the instant kills on the marines, thats about it. The final boss fight is neat, but super easy and like the rest of the campaign, just misses the mark.

Now the mp modes, thats a different story. I played a quick match of survivor and then i was able to get into a full 18 man Species Team Deathmatch. That was an absolute blast. I hope they add more maps for the survivor modes, as of now there are only 2. Im gonna take a break and jump back into some of the mp, try to unlock some more skins.

Hurm, that disturbs me since I'm a SP > MP sort of guy. The Alien and Marine campaigns are my main interest so I hope they do indeed prove to be better.

Picked it up today, along with my pre-order DLC!!!:awesome::up: I probably won't be playing it for a couple of weeks because there are like six other games I still have to get to, too many too close together, so I have to pace myself and play one at a time lol,:D right now it's Bioshock followed obviously by Bioshock 2,:ikyn which of the six comes after that remains to be decided, I need a time machine, "Hey Doc can I borrow your Delorean???":oldrazz::D:up:

Yea, im gonna start working on the Marine campaign next, im mid way through the Alien campaign and unfortunately it doesn't look like its going to be much better. I really think the devs worked on the multiplayer first then said to themselves, 'hey we have time to do a single player game as well' and they just slapped a sp campaign on top of their multiplayer. The multiplayer is really good which is why im so disappointed in the single player stuff. I mean the Species Team Death Match is a blast. Earlier i was playing on a team of Aliens and i came upon 2 marines well i decided to turn and run and i told my teammates that i was being followed by some marines, i lead them into a narrow room and as soon as the marines entered the room, my 2 xeno teammates grabbed both of em from behind almost in perfect unison, it was a really kick ass sight.

The marine campaign is the good one, trust me, its creepy and badass.

I see. Then I am somewhat elated. I have fond memories of the previous two games and watching my motion detector bleep while standing in a dark hallway.

I started on the Marine campaign since I just saw Aliens last night an fits my mood best right now. Its been really creepy an I've even jumped a few times from some stuff.

I cant wait to rent this bad boy tommorow but from most of the stuff im hearing it kinda puts me off that single player is not long at all. If single player isnt real good then $60 for a multiplayer heavy game may be a bit deep. I still wish after this game that we get a next gen predator game like concrete jungle but set in the jungle and better game mechanics.

Yea id like to see that as well. Concrete Jungle was a fantastic concept. I loved the ability to unlock all the different predator outfits as well as collecting all the different weapons. Id love to see another game like that, just you know, better.

From what I've seen, the good reviews seem to outweigh the bad. But I can see why it gets rated poorly, the SP campaigns really seem to be way too short. I know I'll love the MP, but it would still be nice to have a good SP to go back to when I don't feel like playing with others.

Reviews for this are so mixed its infuriating.

Haha yea, i really think it depends on your style of game. If you can really get into multiplayer this game is gonna be a pretty solid title for ya, if you are one who doesnt really care about MP and wont be spending much time in it for this game, then most likely you will not enjoy the game. The campaigns are just waayy too short and compared to other fps campaigns, they dont stack up(altho i still have yet to play the marine campaign).

Any word on the "Colonial Marines" game?

*sheds a tear.

No, not as of yet.

I'm not unconvinced its in development hell.

My wife just called and said she picked up the PS3 version for me, which I'm cool with. I heard that each campaign can last up to six hours (like here I also heard you can beat them within 4) but honestly...no biggie. I wasn't expecting an 8/10/15 hour campaign for each of the species, 4-6 seems fair enough, IMHO...more so when you factor in the MP.

I tend to play my games on the hardest difficulty first anyway, so I'm betting I at least get 6 hours out of each campaign. If so, that would be a grand total of 18 hours.

All said and done, 18 hours isn't bad...heck even if I beat each campaign in 4 hours that still gives me a 12 hour game. Unless you're buying an RPG getting higher then 12 hours in a game is pretty rare...

No but I'm sure Gearbox's success with 'Borderlands' has made sure that it's still in progress. I've seen a couple people on my friend's list with this already, even more than Dante's Inferno, so I'm sure this game will sell good & Sega will push forward with CM.

Yea Colonial Marines was on the fast track to be released but Sega held on to it and decided to push AvP out first. I think we will still see Colonial Marines. Gearbox is a good developer and im sure what they have now is pretty good. Sega paid a lot of money for the Aliens license, they are going to need to push out as many Alien based games as they can to see some profit. I dont think its an 'if' CM comes out, just a when.

On a side note. The Marine campaign is super creepy. I dont care what anyone says about the motion tracker, had that not of been there itd be far less frighting. Its scary as hell to hear that thing beeping only to not see anything in front of you. Great stuff there.

Oh god I hope so, they really do need to get back to the basics. A group of your friends all online co-op to travel to a planet and fend off a hopeless battle against the xenomorph. One thing that bugged me about the games/AVP movies was how much of the alien they showed. "Less is more" is definately neglected these days and it would be a blast to feel the sheer terror of just being humans with guns walking in the dark.

I love this game! I've played bits of all three campaigns and its a blast. The controls are different but it didn't take me long at all to get the hang of them. I plan on taking my time so as to get as much out of the single player as I can before I go online. My PSN is ChelseaGrin26 so feel free to add me.

The marine campaign seems to play like a mish-mash of other games than the original AVP. It seems to turn into F.E.A.R. about three thirds through, running around with Alyx Mexican while Dr.Breen talks crap via a video link until you kill him via a ripped off modern warfare sequence. Still wouldn't call it a bad game by any means, just seems like a fairly typical FPS so far.

I didn't find the aliens particularly interesting to fight, they move too slow and the blocking thing makes them seem less threatening in single player as the majority of the time you can just smack them back, ironically the F.E.A.R. soldiers seemed generally more interesting and threatening, at least for me anyway.

Yea id agree. The xenos arent that deadly until they start swarming you.

Started with the Alien...having a good bit of fun with it, for sure.

Thumbs up so far.
