The Dark Knight New Aus Article: 'Batman to play second fiddle to Joker'

I'm not too worried about Batman not being the focus. I remember reading an interview with Jonathan Nolan a while back, where he said, "it's called The Dark Knight for a reason."

In a sense, hasn't it always been this way? The Batman movies imo have always been about the villains. I thought Begins was actually the first Batman movie with most of the focus being on Bruce/Batman.

Yah and it would be nice if they kept that up. Instead it's going to be the Heith-acting-crazy show I'm afraid.

I'm already anticipating the sickening amounts of praise people are going to give him when this come out for being so "daring" and "fearless" and "evil." As if Bale hadn't done all that before, just in smaller movies. When is CB gonna catch a break? I swear, the bigger the movie he does the less he gets noticed for it or it flops inspite of him.

I read in an interview where Bale said something along the lines of him being forever labeled an 'up and coming' actor.

After the release. Nolan: Well, the reason is because the knight remains in the dark. :joker:

Nolan is keenly aware of how Batman was the secondary character in the previous movies, and has said as much on the BB dvd. He's not going to make that same mistake. I think the article is just based on speculation and the fact that they're rooting for one of their own.

I love being a Batman fan, cause honestly... how many other comic book movies suffer from the complaint of: "Dammit! Why did they have to go and cast such a fearless and brilliant actor as the main villain? He might overshadow the fearless and brilliant actor we have playing the main hero! Why oh why can't we bring in some lesser talent to round out the cast? Now I'm going to have to listen to all this damn praise for the performances in the movies. I hate that."

It's not that I don't get where you are going, because Bale is an awesome actor, and is rightly recognized as such. But Ledger is right there with him, and I think we shouldn't be focusing on the glass being half empty when, in fact, our cup overflows.

Well I'm glad the Joker by all accounts will be a fantastic portrayal. (Which is completely separate from my issues with the look of the character.) I'm just disappointed that I don't think they've given CB enough to do as an actor in the series, even in BB where they claimed it was all about Bruce, acting wise, he never got to strut his stuff with that script.

If they both had amazing conflict, drama and emotion in their characters, as well as brilliant dialogue, THAT would be great, but as the writing was sub-par in BB I'm not expecting Shakespeare. But with Joker, there is so much room in the delivery that you can make a horrible line sound crazy-good ... Joker could say anything and it would be twisted.

jacks joker "just like a clown"? um, DUH! he IS playing a clown! so is Ledger. joker IS a clown, a killer clown, so that comment doesnt make any sense. thats like saying devito was "just playing a penguin". stupid! critics suck.

Easy, It's just a critic. They are the same as us, dudes with an oipinion. They only get paid for it. Doesn't make them any more right.

Its all part of the plan. Have Joker in a larger role right now so when the triology or BB3 is released you have Bruce Wayne becomming the man who he will learn to live with, Batman will be known as a hero to some and just some FREAK to others. Joker is setting you up for the triology to be one awesome film about Bruce/Batman for an end and possibly more. Thats how I see it. You have to see Bruce grow throughout the film from beging to end just like begins. He will grow and that will show in how he feels about taking on the role of Batman for the city.

But again as someone mentioned on 1st page. This is all hearsay, none of this is really news, that should be written. Sounds like something I did in NEWSPAPER CLASS in high school and they told me, that it sucked.
