"The Dark Knight may still be months away, but planning for a third Batman movie is already happening, somewhere deep in the Warner Bros. lair. Tonight, in a flurry of superhero related messages between me and a long time scooper and friend of the site, we uncovered some of the details about where exactly Batman goes next, after he’s finished with the Joker in Dark Knight.

Make no mistake by the way, Joker really is out of the picture after this movie, at least according to our source. We’re told that the Joker indeed was supposed to be back for another film, and that they did consider simply recasting the part for the inevitable Batman 3, but that those plans have been scrapped after the tragedy of Heath Ledger’s death. Joker has been written out of the Batman 3 script.

Instead, our scooper tells us we’ll get a lot more Two-Face. No surprise there. Anyone who’s seen the recent trailer for The Dark Knight knows the current movie will be dealing with the creation of Batman’s scarred, coin-flipping bad guy. It looks like Batman 3 will continue with his story. We couldn’t get specific details from our source, but she says the third film will be referencing the Batman graphic novels “The Long Halloween” and “Dark Victory”.

“The Long Halloween” seems to deal with a lot of the plot elements we’ll see in The Dark Knight. According to Wikipedia, it involves the Joker, and the creation of Two-Face. More importantly, it involves the evolution of the gang of criminals Batman fights into full fledged supervillains. “Dark Victory” is a sequel to “The Long Halloween”, in the same way Batman 3 will likely be a direct sequel to The Dark Knight. “Dark Victory” continues the story of “The Long Halloween” and seems primarily focused on Two-Face, while introducing Batman’s sidekick Robin. Does that mean we’ll get the return of the boy wonder in Batman 3? If the story follows along this same track, it could.

For any of this complex storytelling to work, they’re going to need director Christopher Nolan. From what our source tell us, he’ll be back for Batman 3… but only Batman 3. Whether the series goes on from there is anybody’s guess, but all indications are that no matter what happens Nolan quits the world of Batman after the third one, and moves on to something else."

SOunds great, although I'm sure there's no Robin involved. Glad that Heath hasn't been recast.

As much as I appreciate him collobarating with his source, and returning to spill the "scoop", I didn't learn anything new in that article about the third film.

Robin in Batman 3? Yeah, riiight, just like Pengiun in TDK.

I don't care, TDK isn't even in cinemas yet.

i would except robin IF IF IF IF he was done right and not corny or annoying and not so much sidekick like but more of an allie

well, both Nolan and Bale have stated strongly that if they are making Batman films, Robin will not be in it. Just cuz he is in the Dark Victory...does not mean he will be in the next movie.

None of these movies are really based on any of the novels. We will not see Robin. But everything in the article was pretty much expected already.

The only way Robin would work is if they keep the whole Dick Grayson orgin. His parents gets killed, Bruce adopts him, Dick wants to become a crime-fighter but Bruce forbid him. And he never really becomes Robin. Even though I dont like the character, I got to say that the orgin is great of how it mirrors Bruce's and Dark Victory handles it well.

very disappointed that they're not including Joker in the last one...even if they have to recast. i honestly think they could have pulled off recasting Joker, but i can understand why they're going the route they are.

hopefully this means they'll include a different villain. Batman Begins had 2 main villains, the Dark Knight has 1 main villain, 1 sub-villain (Scarecrow), and will introduce a 3rd villain...but with Joker being out of the 3rd flick then that just leaves Two-Face to himself.

no matter what though, i'll be there for part 3 as long as Nolan is at the helm.

Would be my top choice for the third films villain

Why?

Because it will never happen

I'm not sure if I buy it. They have an image from a fan-made poster for crying out loud. (That might not mean anything at all, but still.)

Please Nolan, pleeeaaassseeee, NO ROBIN, No no no no no no Robin in the third film, I really like Robinand his origin, but please, wait till another film, or put him in a cameo, but please, just include Two Facey and Catwoman, The Joker and Harley, pleeeaaassseeee!!! :csad:

If Nolan has his way, no worries.

To me it sucks that the Joker storyline will have more than likely run its course abbruptly. It sucks hard for 2 things 1. Obviously the man that gave us this "new" Joker is no longer here with us 2.Recast could be done but I dont know if it would be the best decision to be made for various reasons.

I think I'm in the minority that wants Nolan to include Robin, or just Dick Grayson. Why, you ask? Because I only trust him to do the character right. If he doesn't do Robin, I don't ever want to see him in a movie again. Not unless someone like Dave Fincher or Zack Snyder does Batman 4. But it's sad the only great interpetation of Robin came from Batman: TAS.

Glad to see the Joker will not be recast. I never thought he would anyway considering Nolan's fondness for Ledger and his work. I agree with others that Robin will not be in this film. Batman has not been around long enough (in the Nolan movies). I'd prefer we get Robin after Batman has been on the scene for many, many years. I wouldn't be surprised if Catwoman appeared in this film also.

Two-Face, main villain
Catwoman, introduced and is minor villain/hero (Angelina Jolie)
Barbara Gordon introduced (pre-Batgirl)
The Riddler introduced as main villain toward the end for future Batman 4

Now that is if there is a fourth one, which there should be. If so, then it needs to be a trilogy with another director. It would be great if each set of films that happen are a set of three if Nolan leaves after 3. Then 4, 5 and 6 with one director, 7,8,9 with another (if it goes that far) Bale needs to think of Batman as James Bond as does Matt Damon with Jason Bourne.

All crossing over each other. Maybe 4, 5 and 6 could have a Robin story arc with Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman in it. 7, 8 and 9 have Bane, Azrael, Robin/Nightwing then 10, 11 and 12 be the "New Robin" with Mad Hatter, Ventriloquist, Batgirl and Vicki Vale. 13, 14 and 15 could be No Man's Land story line and then 16, 17 and 18 be The Dark Knight Returns.

Man I'm planning ahead, it is fun to think of the possibilities.

i call bs on all of cinemablend's recent "spoilers." no way in hell nolan would bring robin in after calling the character an embarassment. Dark victory was crap. i think it was just brought up because its a twoface-centric story.

i say if the joker is integral to the plot, recast the role.if he's the one who scars dent in tdk he will have a big part in the third movie unless they kill him in tdk. its not saying that heath will be forgotten when they recast. the joker is a major player in the batman mythology he shouldn't just be dismissed like that. everyone is jumping to conclusions that he's the ultimate joker, but no one(fanboys on the bandwagon included) really said any of this until after heath passed away. i think he'll be great, but its not heath's role, just like its not jack's role. its the joker. if they can do justice with a recasting i'm all for it.

dark victory was batter then the long halloween IMO, but they were both awesome!

Cinema Blend didn't say that Robin will be in it or that they are planning to use Robin. Just that Two-Face will have a much bigger part than he does in The Dark Knight of course, and the fact that the Joker won't be in it.

Very nice find.

Hell yeah, I just want Two-Face for Batman 3, the lone villain. Make him the main focus so that a lot of story can be covered in 3.

They shouldn't put Robin in it though. I want this series, just to be the Batman trilogy. It's already turning out to be the finest superhero series of movies. At least to me.

And with the genius Christopher Nolan returning for 3, it'll be perfect. And they should end it with the third movie.

I hope Robin will be in the third Batman film. Batman is more fun when Robin is with him. I've always thought of Batman with Robin and not Batman solo. Batman needs Robin. He makes Batman feel like a father figure and provides light into Batman's dark grim world and I'm also glad there basing the third film on Dark Victory. Robin was treated not the holy this holy that kid anymore but a serious action hero.

Hmm, I don't know. Bruce is young in these films. These are his beginnings. I really don't want to see Robin in this trilogy. Maybe in the next one, twenty years from now.

The source was referring to where it found the plot for "Dark Victory" and "The Long Halloween."

It would be great if they had Penguin or the Riddler in the third flick. Why? Because their portrayals in the Burton/Schumacher series weren't too accurate, and Nolan ought to put his spin on them.
