Bell Biv DeVoe, the iconic trio from New Edition, has dashed back onto the music scene with the brand new single titled “Run.”
The song samples The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 hit “Hypnotize,” giving it a feel reminiscent of the 90s. The trio sings of chasing after a lover who just runs away.
“Every time I buy you things, you play the game / You run, run, run and you run, run / Can’t you see my heart’s in pain when you run away / You run, run, run and you run, run,” they sing.
New Edition has been making their way back to the forefront lately, with the announcement of their upcoming BET biopic series The New Edition Story set for fall.

O.K., (besides myself) who's been watching "The New Edition Story"?

I was only able to watch the first part and recorded part two. I was very impressed with this production and the child actors were great. I was taken back in time and felt like a little girl again.

Ralph Tresvant is my husband. We've been married since I was in 7th grade; he doesn't know yet. Jahi can't compare. I honestly didn't know they were doing an NE movie.

Following the success of The New Edition Story, BET Networks is bringing new biopics to the network, including The Bobby Brown Story and The Death Row Chronicles for their 2017-18 programming slate.

The Bobby Brown Story will explore not only the story of Brown’s career but also his personal life, with sex, drugs, and music all converging for a dramatic new biopic.

The Death Row Chronicles will focus on the rise of the record company behind Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, and Dr. Dre, delving into not only its successes but its controversial and bloody record. The program will be both a murder mystery and a drama, giving viewers a lot to look forward to.

“Over the last 37 years, BET has cultivated a deep and lasting relationship with our viewers, as we remain the premiere destination for lovers of African American culture. This year, we are saying yes to all things black, with more premium original programming and best-in-class tentpoles that reflect and invigorate our viewers,” said Debra Lee, Chairman and CEO, BET Networks. “BET’s global influence is stronger than ever and we are continuing to expand beyond the television screen to impact our audience – and the world – across multiple platforms.”

New Edition Receives Lifetime Achievement Award At BET Awards

It's about time that New Edition got the respect that it deserves. The R&B group was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award at the 2017 BET Awards.

For over thirty years, New Edition has been releasing new music and putting on great shows that only made us fall even more in love with its members. If you really think about it, New Edition paved the way for many of today's R&B groups -- both male and female. So, it was only right that BET gave the group its due props.

We also can't say that this is too much of a surprise. Back in January, BET's ratings went through the roof when their three-part movie premiered on the network. People will always love them! The group's tribute at the show started with a video that features several celebrities speaking about how much they loved them as kids. From Tank, Lala, Tyrese, Erykah Badu, and more; everyone blushed about the group that inspired them. Pop group New Kids On The Block even said that there would be no them, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC or other guy groups without NE.

Then, the cast members of "The New Edition" movie performed some of the group's smash hits. From Bryshere Y. Gray as Mike Bivins, Elijah Kelley as Ricky Bell, Luke James as Johnny Gill, Woody McClain as Bobby Brown, Keith Powers as Ronnie DeVoe, Algee Smith as Ralph Tresvant; everyone took to the stage to honor all of the iconic group's singers.

During their acceptance speech, Ronnie started: “First of all, we like to thank our lord and savior Jesus Christ right now. Y’all can’t understand 30-plus years in the music industry that will chew you up and spit you out. All six of us standing on this stage right now. It’s an amazing thing.” The others soon took turns thanking family members, fans and more.

Then, the group began performing some of their songs, themselves. NE sang "Telephone Man," "Can't Stand The Rain," and "If This Isn't Love." They also brought out their movie's cast members that played them for the grand finale of their set.
Watching the @NewEdition sing can you stand the rain brings me to tears.???????? #BetAwards pic.***********/1AzehV0sCh

BET’s ‘The Bobby Brown Story’ slated for fall 2018

Bobby-Brown.jpg

BET is set to release the two-part followup to the “New Edition Story” with “The Bobby Brown Story,” which will be released in fall of 2018.

Woody McClain will be back to reprise the role of Brown after playing the singer in the miniseries, which will focus on Brown’s solo career after leaving the group, as well as his affair with Janet Jackson and his marriage to Whitney Houston.

The story will span 30 years of Brown’s life, from his time as a drug dealer in Roxbury to his successes in his career and personal life.

The biopic will also cover the devastating blow to Brown’s life as he and Houston were unable to overcome drug problems and divorced in 2007.

Houston was found in a bathtub just before the 2012 Grammys, and their daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was similarly found in 2015 in a bathtub. She died in July 2015 after spending six months in a coma.

However, there is a redemption aspect to Brown’s story, as the biopic will also tell the story of his sobriety and how he learned to be a better husband and father and was remarried in 2012 after finding love again.

“The New Edition Story” garnered record ratings for the network, so we’ll have to see if this story will be able to repeat the success.
