Yes I just read this int. with mike Dougherty and he basically said that the parts of supes journey its explained but not seen onscreen,it was shot but got cut out. Is this why we haven't seen anything of the ship or krypton ruins in the trailers?Michael Dougherty Interview:

Well the thing is that the movie is 2 1/2 hrs long and how long that scene could be? Iam sure that it is like 5 min long or something,I mean I would understand if the final cut was like 2 hrs or something like that but why can't they put a scene they've been talking about so long and that we have been expecting,I mean the scene is probably short(how long can he be shown searching in K ruins)but still it was gonna be powerfull and meaningful. Plus spectacular with an epic scale and great visuals. I hope they have a very good reason to leave it out.:(

for the directors cut i bet there maybe something or maybe they didnt have anymore money to play with ( shruging)

"Giving Lois a kid wasn't a casual decision. It wasn't like we were trying to think of things to change just for the sake of shaking things up. If anything, we were well aware of how antsy the fans get when the comic book canon is altered, so everything was done very carefully."

Understatement...Mike....understatement.

Nah,they already shot the scene and I think the fx was probably complete. But they just suddenly (for whatever reason) decided to leave it out, anyway dougherty said that it owuld maybe make it to a dvd edition. Not fair:mad: Well probably their reason is that the whole scene slows down the pacing of the film to some extent.

A casual decision? How stupid.

Cutting out the krypton examination isn't that big a deal, actually, especially considering the constant references to where he went and how long he was gone, the 3 or 4 minutes of him flying around the old Krypton sets ends up being pretty to look at but sorta extraneous.

So basically, you're going to get an opener where I'm figuring the movie will finish the end credits and we're going to simply get the ship rocketing towards earth and landing back in Smallville. Which is a pretty solid opener in and of itself. Straight to the point.

haha...that's funny.

that sucks they had to cut the space scenes out.....i was REALLY looking forward to seeing the remnants of Krypton along with
the dome from the original movie
.

oh well....hopefully they'll release it with the director's cut.

whoa, wait, how is it REALLY BAD NEWS? The opener of him touring the ruins isn't THAT integral to the movie going forward. Again, the opener becomes sorta redundant because the characters all REFERENCE his visit back to Krypton multiple times over the course of the movie. It would have been nice to look at, but you don't really NEED to see it. You need to know it happened and why, but you don't need to SEE it in order to start the movie.

it's not REALLY bad news....it's not gonna severly hurt the movie, it just kinda sux is all...

Yeah youre right, but however see it from an artistic "visual only" point of view if you know what I mean.People don't really get upset because the scene is really important to the storyline/plot,but because they won't see the beauty of the scene, even if the scene is not relevant or crucial to the story,it would have add a special element(of visual spectacle and nostalgia) to the story.Plus remember that in this scenes clark/Kal-el would react to what he saw, that was supposed to be a very dramatic scene. But what the heck its cut now

It's a type of scene they teach screenwriters to cut out because it really isn't relelvant to the movie itself and the reader/audience knows Superman was exploring Krypton by seeing his return to earth.

I think the relevance of the sequence would be to show the destruction and devastation that Superman encounters upon his return to Krypton. This way the emotions that he displays upon his return to earth are that much more poignant.

It will be on the dvd im sure thats why its cut to 2 and 1/2. if they would have left it in then you would have had ur 3 hour movie. Which would have been fine for me and some of you, but like Matt has said before a lot of casual movie goers arent going to want to sit through a 3 hour comic book flick, even though its a comic book flick with pizazz. LOL

I'm glad actually. I never thought Superman flying around in a spaceship would come off too well. Cause most people would have been like, "huh, I thought he could fly." Obviously not realizing he's away from our sun. Anyway, I still hope that have some shots of him there out of ship when things start to get a little crazy. I think it's a good choice overall.

I think of it this way: It's just another scene to add in Superman Returns 1.5 :p :D

Btw does anyone know if there's pics of the krypton ruins or the ship in space in any of the tie in movie books? I remember that the LOTR movie books had pics of scenes later shown in the EE dvds
