For 3DS

Rumors about a new Mega Man Legends game have floated around for a while, but now it's official. In conjunction with this morning's Nintendo press conference, in which the final design and pricing for the upcoming 3DS system was revealed, Capcom has announced that a new Mega Man Legends game is in the works for the new handheld platform.

In the video below, Capcom's Keiji Inafune talks about the difficulties he faced in getting the company to revisit the series, which was never a big hit. Once he finally convinced the right people, he says he's devoting much of his energy toward it. "I personally want to be involved with this game more than any other game," Inafune says. There aren't any game details at this point, aside from a few vague--but tantalizing--references. Inafune says that the game is being created under a new style of development, but that he'll talk about it later. In addition, he says that they aren't approaching the project as making a game for the sake of simply making a game, but that he and his team want to make a game for you. OK then.

Masakazu Eguchi, the game's director, had a few things to add on Capcom's blog:

When I and the rest of the staff first heard that were that we were doing this, we were shaking in our boots. All of us were asking our bosses, “Are you guys serious?”

But the proposition was interesting to say the least. So, now here we are making intense preparations and trying to stay on schedule.

...Having said that, there are so many details about the project that I am dying to tell all of you... but you'll have to wait and let your imaginations run wild for just a little longer, until the Comic Con in New York next month!

thats complete bulls--t! Just make one for the PS3/360 damn it!

Who cares? The 3DS looks amazing! And I think it's graphical style perfectly fits the Megaman Legends series, I'm so super stoked. This is LONG overdue.

Day one for me. :D

3D version of Star Fox 64 is calling me.

I fainted for awhile when I saw this haha, amazing news, going to blow my mind and everyone else's once it get's released :woot:

Well, I think it goes without saying I'm excited for this to finally happen. In my gut, I knew it was going to with the way a lot of things were being revived.

Though, I'm not going to lie, it is kind of bittersweet for me. Mainly because I really had no plans at all to buy the 3DS, at least not for a good damn long while until I could get it under $100 on eBay. Nothing against the system, just not a huge on handhelds and, outside Kid Icarus and maybe Metal Gear Solid 3D, nothing really caught me much. I will say, though I did expect this to happen, I was at least partially expecting it would be a revival on a handheld or the Wii. I had a DS and Wii, so I thought I would be prepared, at worse the PSP, but I could get that for under $100 by now easily, and there's plenty of other titles I have interest in.

So, I guess bottomline, I am excited for this, but I can't help but feel as if the unattainable object just became the poisoned object to secure. So, yay and damn at the same time.

It's about damn time!Just another reason to get the 3DS:)

Bots are getting smarter, they have bots that will deny they are bots now. :(

So I guess that's the island you'll be exploring?

I love the reaction the Servbot received. :D

"It's been ten years since the last Mega Man Legends game," Inafune reminded the captive New York Comic Con audience, before unveiling a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Mega Man Legends 3 Project for Nintendo 3DS.

Why the "Project" in the title? Inafune clarified that this "project" would be a collaborative experience -- but not in the Mega Man Universe kind of way. Instead, the community will be able to actively participate in the development of the game. The Capcom-Unity website will be updated with a "Dev Room," where fans will be able to submit their gameplay ideas, boss ideas, character ideas, and more. In the future, fans will be able to vie for a position in the game's voice cast.

The first challenge for fans is to pick the next heroine in the Legends series. Nine different artists, including Inafune himself, are offering designs. The fan-driven vote will determine the female star of Legends 3. Keep an eye on the Dev Room for your chance to decide the future of the long-dormant Legends series.
Hmm, not sure what to think of this, especially the new 'female star' part. Does that mean Roll and Tron won't be the main female leads?

All nine concept art pics they mention are at the link, these are favorites:

This one is definitely my favorite.

I like the simple design and the met helmet/hat is a really nice touch.

My favorite of the designs:

For some reason I can see this fitting in with the designs for the other characters in the series really well.

Capcom has announced the results of the first effort in its design-by-large-committee process for Mega Man Legends 3 Project. Fans voted to choose the character design for a new heroine, with Shinsuke Komaki's design (above) winning by 2,400 votes. "Being able to hear opinions directly from you the fans was a unique experience for me," Komaki said, "and I am so thrilled to be a part of Legends 3 in this capacity."

Meanwhile, the real best design, Hayato Kaji's girl in a Metool helmet, landed in 8th place. Great job, community.

After Keiji Inafune finally got his wish and began development of a new Mega Man Legends game ... he left Capcom. The remaining team members collectively issued a statement through Capcom-Unity to let us know that the 3DS Mega Man Legends 3 Project continues unabated. "We have been reading all of your comments from the past few days, many of them expressions of anxiety and many of encouragement," reads the open letter. "Honestly, though many of us are still a little dazed and confused about all of this, the 'can-do' fire inside us is still burning as hot as ever!"

The team also promised to reveal info soon about upgrades to the Devroom community, through which fans help decide design decisions (like the new character design). And though it's not explicitly mentioned, we can assure you that Capcom will also continue making Mega Man games in other series. All the time. Forever.

MML3 development team said:
From all of us here on Mega Man Legends development team,

We realize that events of the past few days have given many of you great cause for concern, and we apologize for taking so long to get back to you.

We have been reading all of your comments from the past few days, many of them expressions of anxiety and many of encouragement.

Honestly, though many of us are still a little dazed and confused about all of this, the "can-do" fire inside us is still burning as hot as ever!

Not only will the dev team continue on with Legends 3 Project, we will push forward even harder than before to complete Mega Man Legends 3!

And just like up until now, we hope that you will continue to help the Legends 3 Project grow.

Together, let's make the best Mega Man Legends ever!

P.S. In the next post, we will be bringing you more details about our new powered-up Devroom community

Having picked a new character design, the next step in Capcom's democratic process for the 3DS Mega Man Legends 3 Project has fans designing a new mech for Tron Bonne. In a somewhat rambling discussion posted on Capcom-Unity, director Mazakazu Eguchi and assistant director Yuji Ishihara discussed a potential introduction scene for this robot, in which Mega Man is about to acquire treasure deep within a ruin, and the Bonne family bursts through the ceiling in this robot.

You have some time to think of your perfect robot design -- Capcom will open its Devroom for your submissions soon. In addition, if you're not familiar with the series or the Bonne family, the blog post has bios of all the Bonnes. Though if you're that unfamiliar with Mega Man Legends, what are you doing contributing?

Hmm, I'm kind of confused with this...makes it seem like the continuity may not jive with the way MML2 ended...

Maybe a few year have passed? It'd be weird, but you never know what direction they'll go.
