New Mega Man Legends

A few years after they've brought him back from the other planet and everything? I don't know, I'd be fairly disappointed if they skipped over all that.

The final character design for the new Mega Man Legends 3 Project character, now named "Aero," has been revealed on Capcom's Devroom site. Designer Tokiko Nakashima took Shinsuke Komaki's winning character design and altered it with the intent of making it fit into the gameworld ... which apparently means different leggings and shorter hair. Capcom plans to show off the 3D model for Aero in December.

This "progress report" coincides with the launch of the Devroom. If you want to take part in the discussion about Mega Man Legends 3's development -- and make sure nobody does anything stupid -- you can sign up now.

I've been hoping for a new Mega Man Legends game:)It being on the 3DS is a plus.

If you're interested, you can head over the Devroom and vote on Mega Man's design.

I went with B.

Also, has anyone heard anything official about Capcom putting out the original games on PSN? I hopped onto the Playstation Store not long ago and noticed they had some Legends avatars.

No word... The Legends avatars caught my interest as well but Sony tends to take a while when putting out REAL PSX Classics...

New trailer for Mega Man Legends 3 "Prototype Version" a playable thing you'll be able to download when the 3DS eShop launches. It shows the first gameplay footage which looks pretty cool.

Um, not sure what to make of that trailer to be honest. It looks fun, but I'd like to see a little story to it to see where this lays. Lack of Tron introduction makes me sad :( Maybe they'll introduce all the the Bonnes in their own video

Well, looks like this game may not be as certain as we dreamed:

Since the beginning of the Mega Man Legends 3 Project, Capcom has put forth the impression that the 3DS game is in danger -- that it hasn't been green-lit, and needs lots of interest and participation from fans to avoid being axed at any second.

Even with the impending release of a playable demo, that hasn't changed. In a Capcom-Unity blog post, director Masakazu Eguchi explained that the "Prototype Version" being released on the 3DS eShop is based on the prototype the team built to convince Capcom to let development continue, being released to the public after an "unprecedented agreement."

"Furthermore," Eguchi said, "the heat and excitement surrounding this downloadable title would determine whether or not the full game could be green-lit. If hype is strong, the full title will be a go. If not, it's a no-go." With Prototype Version, it'll be easy to measure "hype" in sales.

It's been like this for a while. It's very much like the MM2 debacle of years ago. They are funding much of this themselves and are working to talk Capcom into funding the rest of the project.

I'll be downloading this as soon as it hits. Anything I can do to help this project move forward.

Ever since Inafune left, Capcom is on a rampage of slashing his pet projects like they did with his other Mega Man project.

I wonder who the guy with the pony tail is?

Mega Man Legends version of Protoman?

That's Barret. You play as him in the "prototype version".

I loved...LOVED Mega Man Legends 1 and 2. I feel like such a ****** for selling them (I sold alot of good and some rare games to get money for a dumb 360, so not worth it). To me they were the Zelda version of Mega Man. A third sounds exciting but I also think in this day in age it will be disappointing....as its been so long....and some other things I don't like about Japanese games/anime/manga overall these days that I don't want to talk about and offend anyone with. :p

EDIT: Okay just watched the trailer, definitely seems reminiscent of the original! I hope if the full game gets made though you play as Megaman instead of Barrett.....just because he is a new character. :p

But I'll hope it gets made as I definitely would check it out.

Bad news I'm afraid.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/gregaman/blog/2011/07/18/a_message_from_capcom

We'd like to thank you for your ongoing loyal support of Mega Man Legends 3. Today, however, we must regrettably announce the discontinuation of this project.
From the outset the MML3 Project was intended to give gamers across the world insight and input into the development process. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.
Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.
We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans.
We thank you all so much for your extended support of this title and this community, and we hope that you will continue to support the Mega Man franchise as well as other Capcom games.
If you have any questions, please see the FAQ below.
====================
Q: Are there plans to restart the Mega Man Legends 3 Project in the future?
A: Currently there are none.

Q: I want to maintain contact with the people I met through the Devroom.
A: The Dev Room will remain open in a limited capacity, so you can PM those people now and in the future.

Q: Is there a chance the ideas recruited in the Devroom will be used in future games?
A: No, I am afraid not.

Q: Will it be okay to upload the ideas we contributed to the Devroom elsewhere?
A: Yes, you may reuse your ideas elsewhere, including those ideas that were selected as winners in Devroom events.

Q: Will the people whose ideas were supposed to go in the game receive something else instead?
A:Yes, those whose ideas were to be implemented in the game will receive a commemorative gift, which will be shipped at a later date.

Q.Can you please give me more information on why the MML3 project was cancelled so close to the launch of the Prototype?
A. The project was cancelled for the reasons outlined in the statement.

Q.Will the Prototype Version still be distributed via the Nintendo eShop?
A.No it will not.

Q.Is the cancellation of MML3 related to the departure of Inafune-san?
A. The cancellation of the MML3 project is in no way related to Inafune-san leaving the company.

Q. This is the second Mega Man game cancelled this year, what does this mean for the future of the Mega Man Franchise?
A. Mega Man is still an important franchise within Capcom’s portfolio and we will continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles in the series.

Q. The Dev Room was a place where fans were supposed to be deeply involved in the creation of this product, why were they not involved in the decision to cancel this product?
A. We thank all those who were involved in the Developer Room, but the decision to continue or cancel the MML3 ultimately had to be made by Capcom.

Q. What will happen to the ideas and input participants have given to the Dev Room?
A. Content will remain viewable on the Devroom, but will not be utilized for any future projects.

Q. Will there be any future projects that involve fan participation in this manner? Or was this a one time experiment?
A. We will certainly continue to welcome suggestions and comments from Capcom’s community on current and future titles although right now there are no projects with plans to replicate the same level of interaction.

I see why Inafune left.

The "3DS exclusive" part wasn't cool, but they couldn't even demo the prototype to see if people liked it?

You know, I try not to get just outright pissed about stuff like this because I know it happens and all that, but really, what was the point of announcing this damn thing to begin with if the chances were so iffy of it even happening? Not just announcing it but building a website around it with interactivity to decide game content. I just don't really understand that.

I guess it's only appropriate that this is how the project would turn out. I'm actually a little embarrassed that I didn't see it coming. Legends has always been the bastard child of the Mega Man franchise. (The entire franchise itself being woefully neglected.) Mega Man Legends 3 was Inafune's baby, his "dream game". His other passion project Mega Man Universe was cancelled after he left. It makes sense Capcom would cancel this one too. I know they said specifically that Inafune's departure wasn't the reason for cancellation, but it's difficult not to connect the dots and see that it if wasn't the sole reason, then it must have at least have played a large role.

I'm very disappointed this game got cancelled, because it's pretty much the final death knell for Mega Man Legends. But what bothers me most, is the fact that Capcom seems to have such little respect for one of the most classic, iconic, and beloved franchises in video game history.

Wow, I was expecting them to cancel the game after releasing the "prototype" for the 3DS shop. Pretty big embarrassment for CAPCOM considering how much fan input they asked for character design. I thought Tron was one of the characters added to MvC3 to try to garner more interest in the Legends franchise in anticipation for this game.

Weird we get that new Bionic Commando and will be getting DmC, but this game gets canceled.

Very sad to think that CAPCOM doesn't have as much faith in Megaman anymore.

Those guys that hacked Sony? They needs ta pay Crapcom a visit :o

Only Jack Bauer can sum up my anger over this:

Was that Romo Lampkin there at the end?

Well there goes one of my reasons to get a 3DS.

Charging people for pre-existing content and now this d-baggery...I wonder what new low Capcom is gonna stoop to next.
