What do you all think it will be?

I saw a commercial for a new TV show coming to the History Channel soon called "Life After People", basically about the history we will leave behind.

What do you think will be the next dominant species? Will it be robotics? Or will the end of mankind be caused by an apocalypse that also brings about the end of the rest of the world?

I just typed the question into Google, and got an answer I didn't expect. Someone mentioned crows, as they apparently are very cognitively skilled and have good use of food gathering and such. I don't think that would be the case, but I thought it was an interesting idea.

Robotics look to be the likely case, given that I've heard studies say that, within 50 years, robotics taking care of a lot of our jobs. Not an idea I like, but apparently we're letting it happen already.

cock-a-roaches! We better start mxing our dna with them soon.

But serously, if humans leave the earth, it will be because we messed it up so much we couldn't survive. And we are like cockroaches too. So if we can't survive, neither will a lot of other animals.

Lotta bull, all of it. Humans will always rule.

It can't be robots, since you kinda have to be alive to be a species. Chances are we haven't seen the next dominant species, and there may not be a single dominant species either. As far as I know, humanity is the first dominant group that is comprised of a single species.

If our dominance lasts half as long as the dinosaurs' reign was, I'd be surprised. No, wait, I'd be dead for over 50 million years.

I'd expect you to say ferrets will take over

I once had to physically stop my ferret from sniffing a lit candle. They're not dominant species material, plus weasels belong to one of the earliest groups of carnivorous mammals, so they'd have taken over already if they had it in them.

It will definitely be among the sea creatures, most likely parasites, sponges, jellyfish..etc.

Otters FTW

Evolution dictates that our women will slowly graviate toward alligators....

I'm sure it will have something to do with self-replicating nanotechnology.

Jellyfish and sponges don't have brains. No chance they'll ever figure out enough (unless some form of them evolve into brain-posessing and highly intelligent versions of themselves) to be able to dominate the world. Parasites are pretty unlikely too, as they only act on basic instinct in most cases.

The best case I could see is dolphins, which seem to be the common belief.

I would gladly be part of the Wizard revolt.
