Im hoping that the lack of DIAB in Iron Man II is because Favreau thought it didn't suit the story and not because of Hancock.

Other than a nominal correlation, I don't get the relevance of Hancock. Hancock's drunkeness was largely played for laughs as an atypical hero. DIAB is dealing with a scenario where a guy who's been a standup hero and public crusader is reaching his breaking point due to personal and professional struggles. It's a dark story that's meant to carry serious weight. There's a certain element of redemption involved with the progression of both stories, but Tony's is the one that really has any dramatic undertones.

Saying DIAB couldn't happen because of Hancock is like saying a Black Panther flick couldn't happen because Batman already wears a form of black armor.

I'm a little disappointed because it seems all the things I was looking forward to about this sequel won't be dealt with(ie Mandarin, Alcoholism, War Machine??)

But somebody pointed this out to me that it would make for a great third movie to have the DIAB storyline with Mandarin. Also with the characters they're introducing for this movie it seems like it would be a great story anyway, so best to not to try and cram everything in in one pic as with many comic book movies!

It makes more sense to keep it for the third, and have Mandarin somewhat chide him and insult him as a "drunk" or something if it appears that people in the media start to notice it.
