Northwestern University defends after-class live sex demonstration

If you're taking a class about "Human Sexuality", you should be familiar enough with the mechanics of coitus. Never mind that the class is about psychological sexuality, not the "if you jiggle this just enough, fun will occur!" stuff.
Exactly. How dare you question the educational merits of sex in front of a class.

What a joke.

If there was a class like this back when I was attending university, I'd probably sign up for the class.

I imagine that this would look like Real Sex on HBO. In theory it's something hot as hell, but when you see who is doing you just realize why there will always be porn.

E-Man, the chick who got *****-ed is in the link. While she's not anything special, she doesn't look gross.

Nah I didn't pay attention to her pics. I just read the text. Shocking, I know.

Well, I think the exercise was to demonstrate that woman's kink. She stated she got off on public attention and that helped her achieve orgasm. I think there may be some educational merit in that; seeing first hand the proof that what she claimed was true. Whether it's right ethically really depends on Northwestern's ethics code and your own sexual compass.

I personally don't think education should be out of a book all the time. It should be challenging, it should make you question what you know. And sexuality is an incredibly interesting area which, despite numerous studies showing how multi-faceted it is, is dominately portrayed as being heterosexual love in media. I don't want to generalize about the average 18-21 year old, but how many are really comfortable with their sexuality? How many have any idea about relationships that are BDSM or whatever that are actually functional? So in that way, I also think that this "after-hours" class has some merit.

I do think that demonstrating the sexual act was a bit too far perhaps, but that's only because of my own comfort level.

A friend of mine had this friend who was telling her how in the college she used to go to, she took a Sex Ed class that required her to buy "toys" and she would have to give presentations and write papers on how she felt using them and stuff. I though THAT was the weirdest thing I've ever heard about a college, but this just takes the cake.

They do Sex-Ed in college? I knew everything I needed to know about Sex-Ed two years ago. :o

they typically go into the science, history, and psychology of sexuality; not the "put this in there" aspect of Sex Ed.

That's Sex Ed...not "Human Sexuality". Obviously the class will go into the human pysche, and how it deals with sex.

Oh no, a class full of consenting adults were shown a live sex act in an after class demonstration that they were all informed what would be happening during! I am shocked! And outraged! SHOCKED AND OUTRAGED! JESUS WOULD NEVER APPROVE OF THIS! GOD DAMN YOU BARACK OBAMA FOR RUINING OUR GREAT NATION! SARAH PALIN/GLENN BECK 2012! KEEP SEX WHERE IT BELONGS! Oh wait, this is America, sex doesn't belong anywhere. Let's all just cover our eyes and go "la la la la la" and maybe the whole icky thing will go away.

It was an optional segment so I don't see the problem. The class WAS human sexuality.

I know some people are prudes and brought up to feel shameful about sex, but I don't see the problem. Nobody was forced to attend, nor stay.

I agree with you guys mostly. People/students need to be more educated on this matter. The more knowledge that's out there, the better... and it wasn't like they were watching porn or anything -- it was educational & completely optional.

 :lmao:

I really don't see the point in this. Someone needs a sex toy demonstrated? Really? If a college student can't figure out a sex toy, they shouldn't be a college student in the first place. An institute of higher learning isn't the proper venue for a strip club act.

Not that it should matter, but this is the chick.
