That's 'cause not everyone is built like me.. :)

Your gonna find some heroes who are more muscular than others

It takes years to build the muscle you see in comics. Most actors don't have that kind of time on their hands because most films aren't looking for big actors.

i'd rather have an actor that's a little muscular and can act well vs. a pro wrestler that looks the part but can't act at all

And an actor who can only go for big man parts won't be getting a wide variety of work. Sorry, but that's just the demographics. Bruce Willis had more roles than Stallone and Schwartzeneger.

At least they can spell. My God!

Its hard to find people who can act who are big enough.

Usually WWE wrestlers are sucky actors.

I prefer the acting ability

(even though Supes should be bigger)

Give the guy a break. English probably isn't his first language.

At least the Rock made a breakthrough.

There have been improvements to the muscle suit. I imagine we'll see some really ground breaking muscle suits soon enough.

But, I think Producers and Directors feel that if they look too muscle bound like the comic, the audience will disconnect with the character. They feel the audience will not sympathize with a big muscle bound hero.
I personally disagree with that.
I hope that with certain characters especially Captain America, that they cast an actor who looks impressive and has the stature and persona to represent America. Not some short guy, who's in "good shape".
Although I liked Christopher Reeve as Superman, he still was way too skinny.
And this new guy, Brandon Routh is too.

Yes, acting is more important that looks, but when it comes to comic book movies, the look is just as important.

The thing about Superman is that he doesn't need to be huge...he's superman,he has powers and strengh is one of them,so the muscles are pointless

Yes, it still takes a strain on jis body to lift all those planes and trains. over years of fighting superpowered badies he would have built up some muscle. Superman is not a god, he does have limits and not everything he picks up is weihtless. There is a difference between carrying lois and carrying a spaceship.

Well i think that even though big muscles work perfectly in comics, they woudn't in movies, directors prefer to follow the aesthetics if you will, yes many of the actors playing superheroes are way to skinny most of the time, but the reality is that a huge bulking guy wouldn't look as good in a movie as a SH as it looks in a CB, I think its better to have a decently buffed (but not wrestling type) actor that can act in a super hero movie than a huge mass of muscle that can't say a word without getting laughs, why? because the performance is what really gives believability to the character, for example chris reeve was a bit skinny but his face, expressions, style, acting and voice made superman believable and not the muscles, I think routh even though small in the upper body still has the supes look and if his voice is commanding enough and his performance great he will hit the fans in a good note.

as for how superheroes should look in terms of body size, well Christian bale for me is the perfect example, I think he physically enbodies batman perfectly, he doesn't even need the body armor to look muscled because he is ,that's how I think a SH should look, if christian bale put on pounds of muscle why can't other actors do the same and have the same dedication for their roles.

yes bale was perfect for batman, and I think welling is perfect for supes and tobey for spidey and hugh for wolverine. But routh is too skiiny for me.

Brad Pitt and Matthew McConnaughey have the physicality and builds to make a superhero role believable, but the downside is that they are getting pretty old to be considered for superhero films.

Well the way I se it is that even though routh is skinny and wellingis built I think routh is a better choice for supes it looks the part more, not as old or mature looking as reeve but close enough, but welling just looks like superboy really, I can'ti magine him with the supes hairdo and the suit, he looks too babyfaced. and he really doesn't resemble reeve in anything he's perfect for smallville since he plays a young clark, but routh resembles more the part, aside from the lack of muscles .

Well, routh does remble reeve, but if your talking about how superman looks in the comics back when bryne was their reeve and routh are spot on but if you look at lee and benes today welling looks more like superman. The face of superman reflects the signs of the time.

I agree.

I like old superheros.

but most superheros aren't supposed to have blatant southern accents.

Thomas Jane looked good when he played the Punisher. But he was very dedicated in filling the role, even if he lacked the full height.

height is overrated. I think they should have a shorter guy playing Superman so he'll look thicker, more powerful, rather than lanky...like Routh. Not that he's lanky...but he's lankier than Supes should be (make sense?)
