Has anyone ever thought that you were a mean or angry person simply because you didn't smile a lot?

I got sent to the ****ing school counselor in 10th grade for being 'quiet and serious to a worrisome degree'. I guess it was a warning sign of a school shooting or something that my english teacher took WAYYY too seriously.

I was just having a weird couple of months.

I always hear this kind of thing from people, especially closer friends after they get to know me.

I usually hear, "When I first met you, I thought you were some angry, mean guy because you never smiled and always had some angry look on your face."

But it's just me. I'm rarely ever seriously angry with anything. It's probably why I got the typecast as the bad guy like I did with my high school and college theatres.

I smile all the time and people look at me weird too. They think I'm always laughing about something when I'm not..

I smile a lot, and actually get a lot of compliments regarding it. So not really. If people at the hospital, where I work and go to school, see me and I don't smile after a while they'll ask if I'm OK or if something is wrong.

I'm jealous of people with big teeth who smile all day.
It feels like a bizarre contortion requiring much effort, to me, unless I'm losing myself in hard laughter.
I have had to actually make the effort to force myself to smile for my work. Residents complained at having Lurch at the desk.

A new kid at the coffee shop actually said last week, "You know why I love you, Wilhelm?"

Wilhelm: "Uhh.... no."

New Kid: "'Cause you never, ever smile, you look exactly like I feel."

I hate it when people fake smile. You know like when people in shops have these pretend grins on their face like they swallowed a bucket load of prozac. Smiling genuinely is fine but putting on a smile for other people isn't cool. I dislike how people expect you to smile instead of you smiling because you feel like it.

I only smile when I'm laughing. I kinda look upset all the time. It makes those moments when I start laughing jarring for outsiders. Someone once thought I was bi-polar.

I work retail, so I had to learn to look friendly to customers. I don't smile, but I've become very good at raising my eyebrows to seem less intimidating.

I look younger than I do with somewhat of a babyface, so they assume I'm smiling all the time when that's just how my face looks. I only smile if something is funny or I see someone in the hall. Other than that....nah.
