Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

LOL I think I might have very stupidly (double) subscribed (HBO and now HBO Max). As I've been complaining about before, I have HBO via Xfinity and they still don't have a deal for their subscribers to get HBO Max for free. But because I have FOMO, I decided to try the HBO Max app (because why not??? maybe I can sneak in! ). It asked me to sign up with my Xfinity log in details which I did and I was able to get in. And now it says that I will be billed through Xfinity. Ooops...? I guess it's Ghibli marathon time! But really.... SCREW YOU XFINITY! :p

ETA: Ok, maybe I’m in luck after all! :awesome: Whew.

Yay, glad for ya, @kvz5 (hope you don't get charged twice!)! :D

So is the DC Universe app pretty much obsolete for new DC Series/movie content? Because I remember the GL series was announced for HBO Max. And the HBO Max app has a DC spot already on its hub.

Not yet. Titans S3 is still set to be a DCU exclusive. The DC section of HBO Max is pretty sparse at the moment, and some of its missing content is still currently on DCU, so as of right now, it looks like the content of each will not be entirely redundant. But it's only a matter of time, imo.

I could see them after a while lowering the monthly price for DC Universe instead of getting rid of it.

I would be absolutely cool with them just moving all their TV/movie content to HBO Max and turning DCU into their Marvel Unlimited - comics-only, for a lower price. That's mainly what I use it for already, anyway. But I do need my BTAS, STAS and Lois & Clark fix every now and then. And of course the amazing Harley Quinn.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies are coming in June (yeah, yeah, and South Park and Doom Patrol S2)!

Here's Everything New Coming to HBO Max in June

Haven't seen the Doctor Sleep director's cut yet, so I'm looking forward to that.
Does Doom Patrol season 2 have a release date?

I saw the Doctor Sleep DC a while back. I still really don't like the last act, but this version really helps all the issues I had with the first act, and honestly makes the first two acts some of my favorite work from Flanagan, who I adore.

June 25th!

It probably goes for other Int'l territories as well

Any HBO max shows and movies that get bluray/UHD releases in the US can be imported to the UK, because all of HBO's home video releases are region free, and will play on any UK home video player. Sky cant do a thing to stop that.

Plus UK residents won't have to look hard to find a stream of HBO max content. No illegal downloading required.

Pretty sure that is still illegal.

I wonder if this is all because before the Warner sale, during the height of GOT, they sold/renewed their rights everywhere they could, to boost the evaluation of the company?

HBO just extended their output deal with Sky this past October. They obviously feel better off operating as a B2B entity with Sky's 24 million customers in Europe, as opposed to investing capital to build a D2C business in that region. For comparison, this is also a region where Netflix will soon rival NA in subs. I think AT&T will be selective in terms of what regions they go D2C and which regions they licence content. Strategies in this space are obviously adaptive, but the more competitors that enter these regions and build direct customer relationships (and grab real estate), the more difficult it likely becomes in the future to do the same. I'd like to see them get as agressive as possible..

EDIT: 24 million customers.

I like it for the most part. I have HBO through Hulu so it's not like I'm paying anymore money it. I don't like that I have to use their app. I should be able to view this content through the Hulu app because my smart TV currently doesn't support HBO apps.

They have a pretty good selection on there, but the biggest plus for me is the ability to download shows and movies on the mobile app, which I couldn't do with HBO Go. But I'm also getting it at no additional charge with my HBO subscription through my cable provider. If I didn't, I don't think I'd pony up the $15/month for it.

Overall, I’ve been disappointed with it. I feel like there hasn’t been much change from HBO Now in terms of content. I’m disappointed that they didn’t secure Roku and Amazon deals before the rollout. Most of all, I’m disappointed that they don’t have as many Day 1 launch titles as previously reported. I could have sworn that they released a list of titles that would be there on launch day but just never came on. This service should have rivaled Disney+, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

On a more positive note, I do like their TCM content.

I like it, but hate that round didn't support it yet

I may be able to get it for free if I use my parents at&t account :o

I just want to see full sopranos episodes not chopped up.

Whoever was in charge of putting out those lists and advertisements for what would be available at launch needs to get a stern talking to, because there's a ton of stuff that isn't actually available yet. Was very bummed to not have access to Young Justice.

But all in all, I really enjoy the platform so far! Especially having a "Next Episode" option on the home page. Having to dig through My Stuff was the most annoying part of HBONow.

Hey if they aren't going to use it, or even if they are. Why not?
