Film Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

General Film
WB has to acknowledge that they screwed up royally with DC properties, and so they should take any box office success they can get. WW 84, The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey all massively underperformed. If Discovery can’t see how much better The Batman did and be happy with its performance, and proceeds to cancel future installments, DC (not DCEU) as a franchise is dead. Full stop no more DC movies for perhaps a decade or more.
Yeah, if you don’t greenlight Batman, what do you greenlight?!

Also come here if you want to work with Ezra!!

China was locked down when The Batman was released there so no one really saw it. Hard to say how Batman plays there.

The Batman did well but didn't set the world on fire. For Batman not to make a billion is suspect but maybe time will tell about why. Part of it could be we're in a BB situation with this. Was a critical success coming after bad Batman content but had solid legs from WOM. It's a movie I expect some waited for streaming. Like TDK, if Reeves plays his cards right the sequel could be in the billion dollar club.

I can’t see how they thought a complete reboot would make a billion out front. Especially, as you said, it was a very similar situation to Batman Begins when that came out.

Keep in mind that The Batman is the only non-sequel out of the top 8 box office right now, even when Avatar and a Black Panther are added, only non-sequel in the top 10!

By bad Batman content, do you mean Affleck's Batman? I thought the majority of folks enjoyed Ben as Batman/Bruce.

So it looks like some of The Batman spinoffs are canceled as well...

I’m not sure which Bat-spin-offs would have much chance of surviving. I really wanted the Penguin show. Dude doesn’t seem to be up for this stuff at all. Big films for big characters is all he seems interested in when it comes to scripted material. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it seems.

If you're Zaslav then you greenlight your own Batman.
Oh yeah, true. Even if his Batman was great it would be such a shame to not see what Reeves could have achieved building from a very strong foundation.

Link?

Not saying its not true. Weve all been expecting it but im not seeing any official reports
Nothing official. Just rumor mill on Twitter saying they're likely on the chopping block or at least the ones slated for Max.

Why can't they move the already greenlit Max originals in HBO proper?

Rumor is they might spin the classic WB movies and TCM into its own streaming service. Sort of like Filmstruck

HBO proper won't be able to carry all the orphaned HBO Max shows and they've been pretty selective about their content, especially when it comes to genre material.

Money, I assume.
Most of those are limited series and there are quite a few of them that seem like they're going to make bucks. But yeah, after everything in the last few days, it's clear that there's no interest in giving scripted content any chances.

The irony is Joker cost 55M (30M less than Batgirl) and made a billion.

I get what they mean by focusing on big theatrical movies, but the size of the budget doesn’t doesn’t mean that. Joker is a big theatrical movie on a smaller budget.

Zaslav on Scripted Drama: "It's like a kid's soccer game - everyone saw something that worked and started chasing the ball. It's way too expensive."

I cannot comprehend thinking that way about scripted tv - the definitive root of the medium for all of its history. And he's talking about it like its some lame fad. :cmad:

When this man canceled a Scooby Doo movie, SCOOBY F'N DOO who is beloved by everyone in the world, I knew he had no kind of soul or inkling of humanity or logic.
