Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

Cruise just made WB his home studio. Wow. That's a major coup. So much for him never working with Zaslav. :o

Can they even afford Tom?

Now let's see if Zaslav can get Peter Jackson and Christopher Nolan back on the lot.

I might have to hand it to him if he can get Jackson to start making real movies again and abandon his AI "remaster" pet abominations

The stress of working on the Hobbit movies broke Jackson's brain. I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to stick to documentaries. Get Back was outstanding.

Stress didn't cause him to try to screw over NZ unions, so whatever.

In the case of Nolan, I'm sure they're going to try, but Universal would be fools to let him go after the immense success of Oppenheimer, both box office-wise and awards-wise. They have a goldmine in their hands. It's going to be interesting seeing them fight for him.

As it is, Universal relented to everything Nolan asked for and it's most likely going to result in his first Oscar win. At this point in time I'd be floored if he doesn't stick with them for his next movie or two. That said I wouldn't count out Nolan working with WB again someday for old time's sake since bridges weren't burned beyond repair when they parted ways, especially if he were to be more of a free agent director bouncing from studio to studio like Scorsese and Spielberg have done.

They literally gave him everything he asked for, even 20% first dollar gross and the movie had immense success, my almost making a billion. His most unlikely project became the most profitable outside his last two Batman movies. And the biggest award recognition by far, yeah. Nolan is known for sticking to the same associates if there's no reason to leave them, hence why he stayed at WB for almost two decades. I definitely think he would work for them again but for now Universal is going to move heaven and earth to keep him and I don't see him leaving them for the foreseeable future.

Tom is a true star but he seems to be a bit old to be starting any new franchises at this point

Never expected it, only to get worse. Which it will, and Zaslav will suffer no consequences for it only to continue to fail upward.
