O' Lucky Day (Peter Dinklage)

I'm kind of surprised Dinklage doesn't find this offensive.

I'm sure the film itself is darkly humourous and transgressive enough that Peter really wanted to do it.

That stated, I would have loved to be a fly in the room when someone was trying to pitch this to him.

"Uh, okay, so you're this guy, who's littler than ... I mean, he's you. Someone like you. No, I mean, he's looks like you. Of course he would if you're playing him ... anyway, and he's pretending to be something else. You know, like those, uh, I'm not sure if I can say this word. You know, the 'l-word.'"

"You want me to play a lesbian? ... I'm in."

"Whew! That was easier than I thought!"

The conference room scene in Elf is just one of the funniest slow burn comedy takes ever.

Comedy about a con man that passes himself off as a leprechaun.

I don't even...I'm laughing and wincing at once. I can totally see it, but yet.

Let's say if someone like the people behind Key & Peele and Broad City were behind it, it might be this awesome satire. Or Lord/Miller. People who are actually smart and clever.

But it's coming from Adam Safe Shankman, who is just too middle of the road to make this actually interesting.

I just realized I might have accidentally predicted this movie last year.

It's like someone watched little man and thought, "how can we piss people off?"

I can see how it could be offensive but it also doesn't necessitate being (no pun intended) diminutive towards him. If anything it is giving him the ability to showcase a short actor who can play the character perfectly. Unlike say, all those hobbits and dwarves in the LOTR who were altered with CG and forced perspective tricks.

Just because it's about a conman who pretends to (might actually be) a real leprechaun doesn't mean it's insulting.

Dinklage is a good actor regardless of his height and this is a movie that sounds like it was written specifically for him which is no different than a movie specifically written for someone else based on some characteristic of theirs.

I think if you left out the pun disclaimer it wouldn't have been as offensive. :hehe:

If I didn't make a point of saying I wasn't trying to be punny then someone might've thought it was more offensive. When it comes to the internet though I should know better than to think there is such a thing as "non-offensive."

You will never win.

I realize that but I keep on trying anyways. One day. One day the internet will realize not everything is a remark meant to belittle* someone.

That time it was intentional.
