OMG the ultimate Tom Cruise running shot. when he is exercising he is running .

run Cruise run

So the filmmakers finally succumbed to Tom Cruise running obsession and built him a human hamster wheel :funny:
Andrea Riseborough needs to be in a comicbook movie. and yes thats the young fanboy in me talking.
I suggested her for Gamora in the guardians of the galaxy casting thread

I only found out that Andrea Riseborough is from Wallsend the other day.

Tower 49 Mission Log. Day 1644. It's been a half a century since they destroyed our moon. Two weeks until we can leave and join the others.

That ship is such a great design, I am surprised that there has been no collectible made of it yet.

Hmmm destroyed moon? That would do some wonky stuff to the earths orbit. I hope its not just there to look cool and its effects are mentioned. I really want this to be a smart film and not just eye candy.

There where some test screenings in LA last month. Reactions seem positive, with complaints being the middle drags a bit (Which the film makers where aware of), Morgan Freeman is more of an extended cameo but the ending was unanimously disliked. Which is kind of a worry.

did you see how they used the sky background on the set for the ship to get accurate reflections? holly sh.. this combined with led lights gives you a perfect realistic image.
and how they used a lighting pattern for the sky and sun lighting when Tom is in the bubbleship. WOW i am impressed.

Kosinski didnt know what he was doing with the actors in Tron 2 but the guy is a on set and lighting prefectionist. he shouldnt have problems with the acting in this movie sine Freeman and Cruise would never agree on bad takes . and then to be realesed like in Tron 2. so here we are good

Dudelove, where did you see news of these test screenings?

On another forum;

Just saw a workprint test screening

And this movie has so much potential. They really mucked up the pacing. The ending was very disappointing. They didn't spend enough time on things you would be interested in, rather making the middle really slow. Could have used so much more character development.

It started well, the effects are GREAT. There was a lot of missing CG, bad greenscreen keys, and other missing effects etc but this is just a workprint that I saw and this is usually how all workprints are. But whatever effects WERE in there were amazing. The pool scene is one of my favorite scenes in the entire movie, it was absolutely amazingly done!

The soundtrack was the highlight in my opinion. Works so so well with the movie.

-

It was a little over two hours long. And without spoiling the ending, it's a little hard to explain what exactly I didn't like about it. But I heard a LOT of people talking about how they didn't like the ending and a lot of people left confused. We were handed detailed questionnaires so I really hope everyone put their real thoughts into it. I know my friend felt the same way as I did and put that down too.

Again I have to say that this movie has SO much potential. It started of so well... Anyway, here's hoping!

-

The actors did a good enough job, but there definitely was not enough screen time for Morgan Freeman's character. They could have built up on that area a little more in my opinion. I can't really compare the music to Tron Legacy, they are different styles but this is a SOLID score. I'm not a huge soundtrack listener, but I do listen to the Tron Legacy Soundtrack as it works well on its own. This soundtrack on the other hand, I may not listen to when not being accompanied by the movie.
But yeah. Pacing troubles. Could have been so awesome. And I really really hope they change that ending.

-

This was an extremely early screening, so yes it is very possible that something could change if the audience's reaction was mostly negative about something specifically. This screening was for exactly that. To see the audience's reaction to things like pacing etc. Their questionnaire they handed out in the end had options to check for bad pacing, etc so they are clearly aware of the potential problems. I will be watching this again once it is officially released to see if they fixed stuff.
I saw the screening in a regular screen but with Dolby Atmos. That made the soundtrack so much more awesome.
The action scenes were ok. The length of the movie would be fine if they replaced some of the more drawn out scenes with scenes that showed us more of what were hoping to see more of. I know that is really vague, but I don't want to spoil anything.

-

No I liked the Tron Legacy action scenes more. It was very different though, hard to really compare fairly. Same with TDKR.
The cinematography was pretty awesome. I keep remembering the pool scene. Probably one of my favorite scenes visually ever. And the music just made it better. I really hope that one scene won't change if they do make any modifications to the movie before it is out. But Life of Pi had some amazing cinematography as well.

-

I was at the test screening as well. I liked it but it did have some pacing issues. I didn't find it confusing at all. The movie opens up with too much exposition in my opinion. I'm not gonna spoil it but I'm sure that when its released a lot of people will say this movie copied a plot point from a certain movie. I though it was great but could definitely use some cutting around the middle.

Wow these test screen results are giving me faith this film could end up being really good, I hope they fix the ending.

not reading the ending. but it looks like an entertaining ''cliche'' scifi movie with good effects and Tom Cruise . they have my ticket.

Found it on youtube

Oblivion Featurette - BubbleShip

I'm loving the soundtrack in the background.

^^^ Really interesting stuff, I love seeing that sort of practical work with the gimbals and fully built vehicles, it really adds to the finished product.

Oblivion - TV Spot 2

The probable greatness of both the aesthetics and the score is what makes this a must see for me. I'm just hoping the plot and characters are decent enough to hold it together, unlike Tron: Legacy.

I loved legacy, so I'm really looking forward to this. I'm glad they screened it early. Perhaps they can work out some of the issues before it comes out

ok this is groundbreaking. and i dare anyone to disagree with me. this is the missing key for practical effects and big sets on blockbusters. this can fix everything.

you are in preproduction. you have 3-4 HD cameras. and you go on location (you pay 3-4 people) and they record the backgrounds. the BG are filmed in HDRI combined in a spherical 360. so when they come back they have a 360 HD hdri background ready to be projected on a screen that will be used outside your set. now you have accurate BG and accurate lighting . how the f... noone is talking about this in the movie industry?

every BG outside a window will look good. but in the Oblivion example you get accurate reflections and refraction( glass is refraction. its when oyu see through a material). i repeat accurate reflections.
you payed 3-4 people, rented 4 cameras and payed those 4 people to assemble the footage. IMO you just saved 80-90% of your CGI effects money that would b spend on those backgrounds.

no someone could ask what about when you change your mind? f. you you lazy son of a b. you are in preproduction for 6-8 months. you had enough time to make up your mind how it should look. when oyu film on location do you change your mind 2 months before the premiere? enough is enough. this is groundbreaking and if Nolan is not using it on his new movie i will be sad. remember. you are not on location yet you dont need cgi and greenscreen. at the same time you get all the benefit of a greenscrene production. which means no rain, weather changes and 100 takes (Fincher)

:up::shock:up:

Back projection backgrounds are hardly a new idea, even if this is making use of better cameras and such.
