You can always tell a better story. I think Avengers and GOTG did good job spreading around the action.

You had Cap, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor go toe to toe with Loki.

Also in the movie, you had Thor vs. Hulk, Hawkeye vs. Black Widow, Thor vs. Iron Man.

And on to Guardians? I do agree that Rocket stole the show. But you did have Drax vs. Ronan like twice. Nebula vs. Gamora. You also had Starlord vs. Ronan's henchmen.

X-Men Days of Future Past had that too though.

New Mutants vs Sentinels
Wolverine vs Mob Goons
Quicksilver vs CIA
Mystique vs Guards
X-Men vs Sentinels
Wolverine & Beast vs Sentinels

I haven't seen all of them, but I voted for WS.

Wolverine & Beast vs Sentinels

I'd hardly call that an action sequence :o

but yeah, X-men.. had action scenes.. at regular intervals

...annnnd that's basically the only compliment I can really muster for that film, lol

This was really difficult, both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past were high, high end comic book films but I just have to give the slight edge to X-Men.

I think all of the X-men films are missing some "WOW" fight scenes. None of them have been particularly impressive to me, save for Nightcrawler's scene. Something is just missing from the action scenes and I can't quite put my finger on it.
Maybe its because the X-men haven't faced enemies that they could take out a bunch of. The closest we got to that was Wolverine vs the soldiers in X2, and then Nightcrawler in the same movie.
I want to see them fighting as a team. First class and DoFP had some good moments of that. But they were mostly characters that I didn't care for, besides Iceman and Storm. I feel like I still haven't seen the definitive X-Men on the big screen together in the same way that the Avengers were.

^^^^agreed

I Loved X2. Loooved it.

But I will NEVER forgive Bryan Singer for cutting away from Magneto, Wolverine, Jean, Storm, and Nightcrawler infiltrating a base full of armed soldiers to instead show us Mystique sitting at a computer. And it seems he still hasn't really learned the lesson to show the goods.

I mean, even now, 10 years later, we still have not seen Wolverine fight a goddamn Sentinel.
What the f*** is the matter with Fox and Singer that we haven't seen this??

He just doesn't have a terribly great eye for action, Singer is much more of an emotions/character guy

^Agreed. I also think that the mansion raid scene should have almost went into horror like territory as you have a bunch of armed men invading a mansion with kids who are learning how to control their powers, many of which would lose control if under extreme emotional pressure. That was truly a scene to see some mutant powers go crazy yet singer decided to just focus on Wolverine. I honestly wish Vaughn would have directed DOFP as I feel we would have gotten many of the same dramatic moments but with much bigger, more dazzling action.

I liked the story more than the action in DOFP.

Apart from a few exceptions (the White House attack, the mansion raid, possible Wolverine vs Deathstryke as well as Superman saving the plane) actio has never really been Singers strong point, and by now it probably never will be. But IMO he makes up for that with great story telling the sheer range of emotions he brings to the table in his movies. I sometimes do wish Vaughn had stayed on for DOFP as well, but he admitted himself his heart wasn't in it, so who knows what type of movie we would have gotten.

I thought the action was SUPERB in DOFP. The Sentinel attacks in the future (both of them), anything with Quicksilver, the whole White House finale, the showdown at the Paris peace summit etc.

Love it all. Brilliantly done.

I thought it was all well done as well, I just think some of it lacked excitement, though I did love the future scenes and may even love even more with a 2nd viewing, will have to wait and see.

I certainly don't think Singer does bad action scenes, I just don't think it's his strongest feature as a director.

So far:
Captain America: Winter Soldier
X-Men Days of Future Past
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (that one embraces the silliness)
Amazing Spider-Man 2

I am yet to see Guardians of the Galaxy, and at this point I don't really care.

Best movie? The Winter Soldier. But best comic book movie? Guardians for sure. That movie captured how fun and fantastic CBMs can be.

Had the most comic booky action from any I can remember

Teleportation, super strength, fire, ice, flying, phasing, energy manipulation, shape shifting, energy manipulation, lighting, controlling metal, super-speed

Blink and Quicksilver were great in terms of action.

That Wolverine VS Sentinel fight was also a major :down. Waited 14 years for that.

Guardians, then TWS, then DoFP for me.

This is true. And all so well done, too.

Any action scenes in DOFP not involving Blink or Quicksilver was weak as hell

Guardians also had a couple let downs on that front, between the short Nebula/Gamora and Drax/Ronan fights, then the singalong final battle

TWS had the big CGI explosion with the helicarriers and whatnot which is a bit boring at this point, but all in all, the action in TWS was unmatched this year in CBM's, it was just more visceral and impactful, more harrowing than any moments in the other films, even when DOFP was offing characters over and over

Indeed and yet even with all those displays the action was still lackluster. Cap definitely had the best most intense action of the big three this year.

They were great, probably the best action scenes in a Singer movie yet, collectively at least. But I do agree with other that there were better moments of action in other CBM's this year.

X2 had better action overall with Nightcrawler, The Mansion, Magnetos prison break and Deathstrike. Battle wise they have not had anything to top Deathstrike.

Yup. Quicksilver probably had the funnest action scene of the year for me, but DOFP's action outside those two characters were not that great. It was pretty ****** choreography with those battles. Thought the X-Men fought without showing skill once again with no communication. They just blindly hit the things with their powers most the time. Blink was the only one using any sort of strategy. Then we get the pretty much redundant scene of Magneto raising and drop something, along with playing remote control Sentinels. What a waste of how to use Sentinels.

Agreed with GOTG as well. Could have used some better action itself.

The fight between Batroc and Cap alone crushes all the other battles.

Days of Future Past. It had the best story, action scenes, and acting.

I will say that on my last viewing of DOFP I enjoyed it quite a bit more. But those future scenes minus the reunion still felt very disappointing from the action to the acting and early exposition.

I still don't get how Mystiques DNA replicated mutant powers for the Sentinels. She can obviously change her appearance but not powers. Did Trask inject these things with every mutant all together and just need Mystiques so they can switch?

I don't know how to rank TWS,DOFP and GOTG,I love them equally.TASM2 is comfortably in the last slot.
