Out of the two CBMs I saw in 2014, both DOFP and TWS are dead even. TWS isn't fresh in my memory so I'll have to revisit that again in order to fully judge which one is better.

One aspect I do remember bothering me in TWS was killing off Nick Fury and then reviving him again at the end. In retrospect, it diminished the tension during the chase scene earlier in the film. It's just something that prevented me from liking TWS more.

That's strange that DOFP has sold more units than TWS but made less money: I suppose TWS blu rays and dvds are more expensive than DOFP?

I've been watching TWS on cable now. Caught it 3 different times during different parts. The only thing I have to watch is the beginning again.

But I find myself laughing at the subtle humor.

"Yeah I bet you look terrible in them now."

"I do what he does, just slower."

Disney DVD/Blu Rays rarely go on sale outside of the first week.

It's a tossup between DoFP and GotG. I've watched both quite a few times and love both. TWS comes in third.

I might have to give it to DofP for actually making me happy with the X-Men franchise. They got rid of all the crap X-Men movies and we can have a new series free of Origins and X3.

Anyway, the franchise needed to pick up in both domestic and international box office from First Class to remain competitive in the current marketplace and DOFP managed to do that, especially overseas. I don't expect domestic box office to increase much, if at all, for Apocalypse, but if international box office remains strong, and perhaps goes up a bit further, then it'll be another success.

Completely disagree here, I expect both to increase but we shall see. I expect this to play out at least a bit similar to the first trilogy. And if Apocalypse is well received (unlike X3) it will go even higher.

Since they have a lot of experience making terrible X-Movies then I hope they learned from that and will not repeat those mistakes later. If they give us another X3 I'm gonna be pissed, especially after DoFP.

Well.....not necessarily the studio from what we are hearing about the FF franchise.

Because they can and people will still buy?
Sure but it's rather silly for a blu-ray to remain at nearly 30 bucks for over a year. They would sell more if the price dropped, imo.

TASM, released in 11/2012 - 3.1 million units @ $65 million by the beginning of 2013.

With the release of TASM2, sales are now 3.7 million units @ $88 million.

Reason I bring this up is the almost 1 million less units sold for TASM2 for that holiday season.

want I am confused if asm2 sold 3.7 compared to 3.1 of asm1 that would be .6 million more for asm2 not less?

TASM2 has only sold 2.1 million units which is down 1 million when you compare their sales through the 2012 and 2014 Holiday seasons. If you include the up the date numbers, TASM is at 3.7 million units sold and TASM2 is at 2.1 million units, down almost half.

I wouldn't say they have a lot of experience making terrible movies when they have only made 2 bad ones out of 6. If anything they have more experience making good movies. And Deadpool, Gambit and especially Apocalypse all have the potential to be great.

My next poop has the potential to be great too.

So long as they keep Singer on board you can be sure the films will be mediocre to acceptable. Otherwise it seems they have no idea what to do except churn out movie after movie until every last drop of $$$ is squeezed out of the franchise.

'Tis the Fox way.
If anything Bryan Singer has more experience making good movies.
Fixed :oldrazz:

Not a fan of any of the Singer movies? Interesting. I thought they ranged from good to excellent myself.

Even so, my biggest issues with them would be that the (melo)drama is laid on a bit thick at times, and that quite a few of the characters that I feel should matter have been given the shaft.

Looking forward to Apocalypse though, but I do wish that they would quit making these god-awful Wolverine spin-offs. Jackman is solid gold as the character, but the scripts and overall production for his solo adventures just haven't been up to snuff.

Best of 2014? TWS by a hair. DoFP was excellent as well, while GotG was pretty good. Everything else on the poll was either terrible or forgettable, but based on the strength of the big three alone, I'd still say that this was one of the better years for the genre on record.

I'm a fan, but not a big one. I think X2 is the best, followed by DoFP and then the first one (and only in that order because the first one hasn't aged very well and feels kind of made-for-tv at this point)

But much like other early superhero films, they all strike me as a series of halfhearted attempts, like deep down Fox is embarrassed to be making comic book movies at all but they have licenses to hold on to so they pump them out because it's something they HAVE to do instead of something they WANT to do.

Whereas Marvel is putting out great superhero movies one right after the other, all the while embracing comic book tropes instead of trying to hide them behind a false veneer of Serious Business™.

Well yeah, though Vaughn and Mangold both made very good movies as well, but so happy Singer is back on board, the 3 X-Movies he has made have been superb.
I actually found Mangold's installment to be serviceable at best, but other than that you and I are on the same page

Yeah I agree with this, even as a fan of the films it feels a little too much like a soap opera at times.

I felt this as well, and even more so with their Fantastic Four attempts. Rise of the Silver Surfer should have been epic, and Fox totally half-assed it.

Like the comics!
That's an aspect they could've toned down, is all I'm saying.

The FF seems to be a tougher property to handle than others, but unfortunately fox does not have what it takes to properly adapt the material. It's a shame they don't put it in more capable hands.

Shows how much the interest in that franchise is waning.
