My dream cars

Nice choice of the Aston Martin, but I can never bring myself to enjoy a Corvette, at least the new ones. Not sure what it is, but something about their appearance just doesn't strike me. I'd rather have a new Challenger before a Vette.

I don't think I can ever enjoy a convertible or a car worth more than $80k. After that point, it just because a huge liability and unless you're possessing a combined household income above $300k, I don't see a justification for such cars.

Hey, does anyone know how reliable/good the 04-06 Jaguar S-types are?

I was just browsing around for old cars, and a local Jaguar dealership is selling a 04 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 with 60k miles for $16,900. I think that's steep, especially for a 3.0 (I should be able to knock it down to at least $15k). I'm not really that interested to buy it, but I was just gonna go for a quick test drive tomorrow evening--on a whim basically.

Is it worth my time?

Here's some pics:

I've learned from mechanics to never trust a Jaguar. They love to fall apart at the drop of a hat.

On the positive side, I can probably get a fantastic deal... :p

I liked the test drive a lot. I didn't drive the car that long as I had to meet up with a friend later that day. If I was interested, I told them I would probably call to make an offer or spend some more time with the car next week.

Some pics at the dealer:

I noticed that the dealer offered no warranty on the car and was trying to sell it AS-IS. If I become interested, I was gonna start my offer at $11,850, 60 months w/ $1750 down payment + trade-in w/ net value est. $3000.

I almost want to wait and see if a 4.2L pops up in my neighborhood, particularly in black. It's my favorite color on the S-Type and I've seen some used 4.2's at good prices, but they're hundreds a miles away. The closest black 4.2L I've seen is near Chicago at $15k.

I'm pretty sure cars today (at least those higher than economy class) have more buttons. I think the arrangement of the buttons is what makes them look more plentiful--not only that, but they're all close to each other. Most cars today have more buttons and dials, but they're spread out a little bit more.

Here's mine, bought it about a month ago:

It's actually a dark gun metal grey, but in the direct sunlight it looks a little lighter here

That Jag definitely has a Butt-ton of more buttons than a regular car, at least mine anyway. I don't think it's worth it just to own a Jag, but that's just me.

Care to elaborate?

On why I don't think a Jag isn't worth it? It's essentially a European Cadillac, just without as much reliability, in my opinion. Overpriced for a product with a nice, shiny wrapper, but little support underneath (Not talkiing about horsepower, which both have plenty of). It doesn't help that I've never been a fan of the Jaguar body style.

I own a 2009 Citroen Berlingo Multispace.....

And i have it for 2 reasons... the first is that the boot lip is low enough that i can sit on it and lift my wheelchair into the boot without ****ing up my knees or back, while not having to dismantle it as i did with my last car

The other is that it cost me literally £100 brand new. Honest to God.
As i am registered Disabled at a certain level, i classifiy for a Government scheme called 'Motability' which takes some of your disabled Benefit over a 3 year period and puts it towards buying a car from a wide range of manufacturers, with any adaptations required. if the car costs more than the Benefit over 3 years, you pay the difference, which for the Citroen was £300. (And as it turned out i'd handed in my previous Motability car with only 'normal' wear and tear, i received a £200 bonus)

It's a damn good car to drive... took it from London to an hour past Manchester and back a few months back, and it was a damn good drive.

In about a year or so i'm gonna have to start looking for my next car... and unless i go for a trike thingie i can use from my wheelchair, i'll probably stick with a Berlingo...

Well, that's why I buy used. :p It's enough that Jaguar isn't holding up its value very well--I never liked the exterior that much either until I actually found myself up close and inside one. Sure, it's pretty much the same as a Lincoln LS, but that's the idea--it's twice as nice looking in the inside as well as the outside.

..and I still disagree 100% on the buttons thing.. :p

I test drove a 07 Jaguar X-Type yesterday..

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detai...up.jsp?paId=347575002&tracktype=usedcc&aff=cj

It's still under factory warranty--9 months and about 10,000 miles remaining. One owner.

I was really impressed by the car. Smooth power, not too aggressive or jarring. The interior design and contrast in materials was amazing--the handling was confident and not too loose. Comfortable seats, so-so base radio. Little to no understeer-very easy to steer. Very little body lean, good suspension--absorbs bumps very well and good visibility.

Test drove this afternoon:

The car was really really nice, but I was a little disappointed in the Alpine sound system. The sound was very clear and crisp, but the bass and subwoofer was nowhere near what I have now in my base model 07 Fusion SEL. What's up with that?

EDIT: I just talked to some X-Type owners and the car actually doesn't have a subwoofer. Just some tweeters....Hmm

Looks like a fancier BMW to me. If you get one, hopefully it's more reliable than some of the ones I've heard about.
