A friend of mine at Wondercon says that there's a huge buzz for Green Lantern..

That poster is DOPE TO DA MAX! That would be a great banner for theaters.

One thing that could be an advantage is that GL hasn't been overexposed. There's still an air of mystery to it.

I don't see what's concerning about that article. Thor was mentioned more frequently as a potential bomb. The only movie that should be really worried is Cowboys and Aliens. That's clearly the consensus bomb.

What I question is Pirates 4 being ranked at #1 more than the final Potter. That I call BS on. Heard nothing but groans from audiences when the On Stranger Tides trailer plays. Fully expect it to under-perform compared to the first three Pirates; also very telling they don't want to challenge Hangover 2 for Memorial Day.

But kids love the Pirates franchise no matter what anyone above 18 has to say...

I like how the article said that Paramount and Marvel Studios' "Thor" may be about a Norse god comic-book figure, yet it's actually funny." The sad thing is that it has comedic scenes and it get a pass over here and other places. Green Lantern tries to do something like that and it gets pummeled for not being serious and dark.
Can it be because the Thor trailer was actually (gasp) funny?

"I like it, another!" >>>>>>>>> "I know right!".

Thor wasn't that funny. :o

But like what someone else here stated before, there's tons of footage of Thor so it kinda balances out the humor, or was undermined due to the action.

Whereas, Green Lantern's footage has been limited. Until now..

If you look at the box office numbers, Pirates of the Caribbean has steadily climbed from just over $650 million to over $1 billion. Following that trend, you would expect the film to make $1.4 billion this year. The Harry Potter franchise, on the other hand, did really well on its first film, but has wavered on Box Office returns (and hence popularity) over the next 6 films. I estimate that the last installment will make a little over $940 million this year (based on the trend) and not topping POTC. The pirate genre is really popular. That's probably why people are hedging on it being #1 this year.

I don't know nor I care what movie makes what, as long as they're successful enough and reaches past 200 million domestically.

It's so weird to see how the mainstream and press don't know a thing about Green Lantern, and yet it's so renowned in the comic book world and one of DC's hottest titles.

Who said that the mainstream press doesn't know about Green Lantern?

.I'm talking about bloggers who suppose to be geeks and some of the press only know bits and pieces of Green Lantern's run; I haven't found one writer that I like who has actually read Green Lantern. That's what I meant.

220 or 240 will IMO not be enough for GL. :yay:

i am more scared about the 3D. i will not watch bad 3D conversions. and if the theater forces me with only the 3D version then i have a problem.

Bloggers are not mainstream media. When you use that term it is meant to be those media outlets that have the largest distribution (major newspapers, network television, radio, etc.). Who's really paying attention to a blogger?

There's going to be a 2D version of the film.

I'm talking about slashfilm, colllider, latinoreview, and the like.

I don't know why aren't you're arguing this with me about this because it's kinda stupid and it'll be irrelevant in a few months.

My point is that Green Lantern is so big in amongst comic book readers and yet, it never breakthrough to Joe Public. But that's about to change with the movie.

I'm being optimistic about Green Lantern's potential legacy in pop culture, Dnno.

sometimes theaters only open the movie with 3D. sometimes what happens is that they have 2D and 3D. but then they stop showing 2D versions.

happened with Clash of Titans in my theater.

I don't know where you live, but there are plenty of theaters in the major cities with a chance to offer the film in 2D. If you can't find one in your town, you might want to consider going out of the area. Also, they may be offering the film via PPV if you want to watch it at home (presumably on you 2D TV).

I think this, Cap, and Thor will all have an influence on pop culture...for the better.

Green Lantern Panel about to start!
