Comics Official JEAN GREY/PHOENIX Discussion Thread

So, what, Jean would get to run the institute and Cyke would be leader of the strike/black ops team with whoever was closest to him during MC???

Would actually rock.

That would be a big improvement of both Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Well, if it's any consolation, at least Jean doesn't say stuff like this anymore...

Afterall, everyone knows that, "part of being normal is to turn men's heads without really trying."

Since my topic's been ignored:

Q1. Could someone tell me more about this 'Anti-Phoenix' I've seen mentioned: It's origin, look, feel.

Q2. Has there ever been another force in Marvel (or DC) similar to the Phoenix, in the sense of possessing people to empower them?

Thanks!

The Anti-Phoenix is the Phoenix Force controlled by Necrom the wizard

I can scan the fight if you like.:woot:

I can only think of two right now.

Captain Universe
The Uni-Power is a manifestation of the Enigma Force, an extradimensional energy originating in the subatomic realm called the Microverse

and

Spectre (not 100% if this should be consider a force)

I think Jean should just not be killed off in the first place. I don't even know why Morrison did what he did. Was it so Cyclops could officially be with Emma?

And the fact that Scott picked Emma and than Jean dies feels so weird to me. A lot of things Morrison did felt weird to me, even how he developed the characters. I still liked his run overall, but he should have not killed Jean, or at least make it meaningful... not just a "Pfft" death.

Who is Jean talking to in that first scan as the white phoenix?

She was talking to Death who was manifesting as a male cosmic construction worker. In this form, Death builds towers in the afterlife to house the souls of the deceased.

Jean as White Phoenix could also build onto the towers.

Morrison used the continuity established in the Classic X-Men #43 backstory (by Claremont in 1990) when he had Jean appear as White Phoenix in the afterlife when she dies. The afterlife is a space like realm with floating towers. The souls of dead beings go into the towers whereas the Phoenix exists outside the towers to do her work from within and without. Classic #43 even hintst that Jean returns to life to learn just like New #154.

Claremont wrote his Classic backstories (8, 42, 43) to show that even after the 86 retcon Jean really had been Phoenix/Dark Phoenix and was innately connected to the Phoenix power.

However for years these stories were basically ignored.

Nicieza (in X-Men Forever) tried to say that the Jean from Classic #43 was the Phoenix that replaced Jean but Jean had been projected back in time and replaced the Phoenix in the afterlife that had replaced her making it her (at least partially) all along. Or something weird like that. X-Men Forever also hinted that when Jean's body was in the cocoon her mind was with the Phoenix, so it was kinda her all along anyways.

Luckily Morrison and Pak pretty much salvaged Claremont's original intentions the way they used Jean as White Phoenix in their stories.

Phoenix Endsong #4 even references the event where Jean as a child manifested the Phoenix when the Phoenix tells Scott that he dreamed of her in the orphanage.

So the Classic X-Men backstories are back in continuity for Jean.

Anyways more Jean pictures...

What about Wolvie going feral and killing Magneto...??? :wow: :wow: :wow:

In Morrison's mind, but still.

@HandOfFate - Thanks for the info. So the Anti-Phoenix is simply the Phoenix under that mystic's control? I thought it may have been an artificial force created to counter it.

I wouldn't mind seeing the fight please, if that's no trouble.

Well, he didn't have to kill off Jean to get that reaction from him. Maybe Magneto could have just taken away the beer Logan likes so much :oldrazz: That would have gotten the same reaction from him, I'm sure.

Jean = Beer in Logans world, right? :p

Rachel/Phoenix Vs Necrom Part 1

He's liked beer for longer, I suppose...

Still, I was just saying that there was an actual reason to kill off Jean that nothing to do with Scott/Emma.

Yeah, I see what you are saying.

Not like Killing Magneto means anything now, but now I can see Morrisons reasons.

Slim, thanks for those Jean pics. I really love the one from HCT

oops, meant ChaosJosh. You were right above him...lol

Amazing pics Chaos! As much as I hated Jean with PF, I alwayds admired her saying "I am Phoenix!!!".

People should rate those images,as well as look at them.I thought that Rachel was a good Phoenix, but the character has been written poorly.I thought Morrison killed Jean again for no reason at all, really.

I think Morrison killed Jeannie because a lot of the people above wanted Scott to be with Emma. And Jeannie became too powerful, because of their own doing, so killing her off is just the only way to go. Plus, they are introducing Rachel. And Rachel is just like a younger Jean with so much more potential and no overused storyline. YMMV though.

Rachel Phoenix was the coolest Phoenix ever... the only who could truly control the power and not got evil :p

Yeah, I really wondered about that. Maybe because she already dealt with that in her own timeline (I mean her original timeline?)? Because I really could not recall her ever, EVER gone evil under such powerful influence. Maybe it's just that maybe she just has the stronger willpower? Or mainly, just have the willpower.:p
