I'm just gonna 2nd guess Nintendo here and come up with my own conclusion, but I think they didn't add the 2nd Circle Pad because they probably don't see that many games needing a second "analog" pad, and they want the system to still require developers and gamers to use touchscreen gameplay.

You wouldn't be able to hold the system while using the 2nd pad and consistently "stylusing" the screen.

Now, I agree that this is still a BS reason not to just include a 2nd pad in this redesign, as games that really don't need the 2nd pad you could just...ya know...NOT ever use it, but still HAVE it when a game comes along that DOES benefit from a 2nd pad and DOESN'T require (Kid Icarus, RE) the touchscreen...but since this is off the top of MY head, who knows why Nintendo does what they do.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. At this rate though, Nintendo will probably release the 3DS XL2 this time next year and have the 2nd nub on there.

I'm getting one for sure. Probably gonna go with the Red. I was planning on getting a 3DS anyway but I'm glad that Nintendo announced the XL before I had gone out and made a purchase.

I don't feel like a 3DS is worth getting when you got a perfectly fine Nintendo DSi. I feel like only a Pokemon game can push me to the 3DS, but only if it was 3DS only.

Nintendo really is behind when it comes to online gaming. I hope they get their act together next gen.

Mod Edit: Do not advertise in your signature when you get one...

This purchase of a 3DS will be my first Nintendo handheld. I wish I could comment on the DSi but if that works for you, then that's awesome.

I dunno man, the 3DS games I own are mindbogglingly good even with the 3D off. Everything from Ocarina of Time to Resident Evil Revelations has been fun, and amazing. The graphics on the 3DS are spectacular for a handheld.

Yeah, I am excited about getting mine. August 19th can't come soon enough. I'm getting a couple of games to start...Mario Kart, Heroes of Ruin and I look forward to Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion.

There are a lot of solid titles already on the 3DS and whole lot more on the way.

I might just wait for more solid titles. I believe gamestop has an off and on deal where you can trade in ur DSI for 60 towards a 3DS. Might look into that.

I'm still crossing my fingers for a Metroid Prime 3DS game.

I really want a 3DS...damn money issues.

FYI: You can get Excite Bike 3D Classic for 3DS right now on Club Nintendo for 150 coins.

I was going to get a 3DS XL (thank god for System Transfer...very smart of Nintendo indeed) but there won't be an all black XL yet (very dumb of Nintendo, quite).

Nintendo are a bunch of jerks when it comes to colors. I want a 3DSXL, but of course it doesn't come in awesome midnight purple.

I'm sure they'll eventually release some new colors down the line after a year or so.

From what I gather if you trade in your current 3DS you get the XL for 100.

Not too bad. May look into that.

The million dollar question when would we see newer colors?
