I think most refs would have stopped the fight at some point during Carwin's hailstorm of fists in the first round, but this ref gave Brock a lot of time to recover.(I'd be pissed if I were Carwin, but I was rooting for Brock so I'll allow it :o:p). Brock covered up way too soon, but I guess this was his first time facing somebody who's plan was so similar to his: punches to the face.

I think, during any title fight, the ref should let it play out as much as safety allows

One would have a very strong argument for Carwin being victorious had he not gassed or punched himself out.

That's because Carwin only trains for one round. Why bother with five when you know you're going to knock the guy out in the first?

Everyone has a plan...till they get punched in the face

Personally I think the ref made a great call by not stopping the fight. I post on a few MMA forums & there are alot of "Brock haters" I suppose you'd call them stating that the ref should have stopped the fight when Carwin was on top.

However the fact is the fighter has to be intelligently defending himself & Brock definatly was. It would have been a different story had Carwin's shots been landing when he was on the ground, but they weren't anyway you look at it. 90% of the punches that he threw hit Lesnar's forearms as he had his hands up blocking.

Had Carwin's punches been landing & causing damage, their is no way in he'll Lesnar would have even been able to kick him away as he did, nevermind actually fight his way back to his feet & control Carwin against the cage for the remaining minute or so.

Had he stopped the fight it would have been a very soft stoppage I think. I think Carwin was kinda convinced he was gonna stop the fight which is why he kept throwing aimless punches.. had he been more tactical & methodical with his punches making everyone land on Brock's face he'd have stopped it.

I actually don't think Carwin had hurt Lesnar as much as he thought he had with that uppercut & knee..

look at Carwins body language between the rounds, he's very subdued...he knew he threw his best stuff at Lesnar and it had very little effect

Really it would be no better an argument than ones heard on why Carwin was gonna win before the fight, fact is Lesnar beat him.

Had that situation above never happened & they'd continued to land one off jabs on each other, I don't think Carwin could have stopped Lesnar's powerful shot.

Carwin was kinda fortunate with the way they landed after Lesnar, I suppose took him down, after he shot in for his first takedown in the first round. Carwin kinda landed to the side which allowed him to bounce up quickly.

Lesnar can only get better, with the power he has he only needs to improve the technical aspect of his striking by a miniscule & he'd be dam hard to stop. It is possible as well, look how much GSP's striking have evolved over the years, Rashad Evans as well.

By the time they fight again, and I do expect to see Carwin quickly move back up into contention, I'd expect to see an even better Lesnar. His standup isn't as his 'haters' like to think it is, put simply he make a silly mistake against Carwin by throwing a punch & then covering up while in a static position. The fight with Mir made him improve his ground game & sub defense, I expect this fight to make him work even more on his striking.

It has a bad effect mentally when you throw your best at someone in any sport, game or whatever & they keep coming forward.

We'll see what happens next time. :woot:

That we will.. until then haters are gonna hate as they always do.

Even though he is the champ, he hasn`t faced a lot of HWs yet, not nearly enough to be called the best. If he is still champ after 15 fights, then I will eat my words and admit he is the best.

15 fights? Jeez man. Brock is gonna have to fight and beat Galactus for most people to give him credit.

You are a proper hater.

Anderson Silva, GSP, BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture.. these are the names of several UFC champions, past & present that have not remained champion for 15 fights. Anderson Silva & GSP have not even been champion for 8 fights yet let alone 15 & these 2 are the pound for pound best.

Brock is without question the best heavyweight in the world currently, bar none.

You have to get over the fact that I find Brock Lesnar over rated. I know it's hard, but you can do it.

There are always haters to any fighter. Brock just gets more hate because of the WWF history in addition to the fact that wrestlers get hated fiercely now a days by the "real MMA fans." Brock coming back should indicate that the fight shouldn't have been stopped. He got up under his own power a minute before the round was over, so the fight shouldn't have been stopped if he could do that and still fight the rest of the round...

Cain is going to own all anyway. After he beats Brock, Fedor, and Galactus everyone will be dancing to the mariachi music. *plays some mariachi music*

I would have more faith in Cain if he was just a little bit bigger, but maybe it wont matter. He looked good in his last fight, his standup was right on.

Nah, Spoons. Fedor beat Galactus last week!

Then Brock's chances of impressing Paroxysm are slim :(

You and the majority of UFC fans find him overrated but this 15 match winning streak you've set for him is beyond ridiculous. If he got to match 14 and lost, would he still be an overrated bum?

Funny thing is, you're nowhere near being the most anti-Brock person I've talked too. Makes being a Brock fan so much more fun. When he wins, we get to gloat x10. When he eventually loses, it'll have just been his time :hehe:

I like Cain(just like I liked Carwin). I enjoy watching Brock fight other guys I like, unlike Mir and Couture. Regardless of who wins, I'm applauding.

Cain doesn't need to be bigger. He showed that in the Rothwell fight.

And before I get a "lol Rothwell is FAT" response from anyone; weight is weight, regardless of disposition.

Cain's technique is what is going to get him the win over a lot of top heavyweights. In terms of wrestling he has a ton of it, but his standup offense has gotten tremendously better ever since he got in the game. Hell his ground and pound is some of the best at heavyweight. He hits and hits while constantly moving into dominant positions to cause more damage. The guy moves so fluid that it's craaaaaaaaaaazy./Joe Rogan

Lesnar/Velasquez is going to turn out like Lesnar/Herring. I hope Cain can get in the inside on the feet though and just start dropping bombs on that chin. I wish the best of luck to Cain.

Anyone hear that Mir and Big Nog are going to go at it for a second time? Wasted match-up for Mir in my opinion. I don't care if Nog was coming off sickness, the outcome of this fight will be no better.
