Overeem has to be the most overrated fighter right now. He hasn't done a damn thing in MMA but get his ass beat by all the good fighters he's faced. The 205 excuses are ridiculous too. Yeah he cut a decent amount of weight, but he was only 228 when he was cutting to 203 back in Pride. He cut enough times to get used to it, so I don't buy the excuse that he had bad cardio because he was too big for the weight class. He gassed when he went to the second round against Werdum without cutting. he just has had bad cardio, and it has yet to be tested against a good opponent. Brock has beaten far better guys in short career than Overeem has had in over 40 fights. Getting bigger and fighting cans in Dream does not mean that you have improved. When Overeem beats Fedor or Werdum, then he should be discussed with the best. Right now he's just a a guy on the wrong end of some highlight reels, and he's Dutch and fought in Pride. Elitists need him to keep up that lie about someone who would come in and destroy any UFC division.

I agree with most of your points but I still think he's a better fighter than Brock Lesnar.

K-1 also isn't MMA. Knocking out Badr Hari may be great, but that doesn't automatically mean that he'll knock out everyone in MMA. K-1 is just an overrated name. Yeah there are good strikers there, but they're not some invincible mystics that knock out anyone they stand with. If that was the case, then Rampage would have never got outstruck by the vastly inferior Forrest.
.......I don't get this part. Rampage = good example of a K1 striker? Because he fought one guy in K1 eight years ago?

The Rampage example is just to show how the whole K-1 mysticism doesn't work. I know he isn't a K-1 guy just because he fought Cyril twice, but I'm just using him to point out the poor thought process of putting an organization over skills. Rampage fought twice in K-1 and won, thus showing that it isn't impossible for an MMA fighter to win in K-1 like some people say. A lot of people think that since fighting in K-1 magically makes you a godly striker that no MMA fighter could beat anyone on the feet that fought in K-1.

Kind of like what happens with Overeem now. He got some wins in K-1, and now all of a sudden he's this invincible striker that can't be touched by anyone in MMA. The guy's pretty damn good on the feet and all, but no one is untouchable. Overeem isn't a top guy yet until he beats a top guy. People are getting too caught up in his K-1 wins and using it to create too much potential for a guy who hasn't done much in MMA. I think he has some good skill, but we need to slow down with crowning him like he's the Bears.

And oh yeah, I vowed to never post on SD, but I guess not now. I guess I'm like 0.5 of a Shertard now, and my response to that is the same as Darth Vader's....nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think Brock, Cain, or Carwin would lay on him. Their ground and pound is pretty active, so if they got him down I think they'd finish it if Overeem doesn't catch them in a guillotine first.

Overeem vs. Kongo or Carwin would be the matches I'd want to see. Overeem and Kongo are pretty similar fighters from an offensive standpoint. Both guys use offensive wrestling instead of only relying on their standup, and both guys use their reach well.

Carwin isn't as technically sound as Overeem on the feet, but he hits harder and has the strength and wrestling advantage. Could he get him up against the cage and hammer him like he did to Mir, or would Overeem pick him apart on the feet? Could Carwin land that one blow that shakes Overeem's confidence, or does he gas out if he's chasing Overeem around the cage while taking kicks to the ribs and legs? It'd be really interesting.

Of course winning a few fights in K-1 doesn't make you an invincible striker for MMA, but K-1 is still the top kickboxing org in the world.

I think Overeem could give any of the top 10 a run for their money, but we'll never know until they actually meet, now would we?

Couldn't agree more.

Overeem is riding one of the most over inflated hype trains I think I've ever seen. We previously discussed Fedor & I made the argument that I don't believe hes been fighting the best he could have in say the past 5 years.. Overeem is even worse.

In his past 5 years he hasn't beaten anyone worth mentioning, Vitor Belfort is probably the only one worth mentioning. Yes, he beat Brett Rogers, however I don't rank Rogers at all. I think he is a glorified Kimbo Slice.
No one else on his list of wins hes racked up is relivent to any sort of titles or credible rankings.. I mean his opponents records where not even impressive coming into fights with Overeem.. things like 15-13 on a 4 fight losing streak.. or 18-17 on a 6 fight losing streak..etc

Then people have the cheek to say Overeem is better than Fedor or is more well rounded than Brock.. I just can't help but laugh because I think of Overeem along the same level of Kongo. Yes he can be dangerous, yes he has some basic grappling skills... but he usually comes up short against 'contenders'.

Couldn't agree more again.

On the subject of Overeem, he is hardly a K-1 invincible either.. his record is pretty poor in comparison to many of the other K-1 fighters.

Overeem's striking is his strength, but he isn't a natural kickboxing/mauy thai talent.. hes average. Hes exactly like Kongo I feel.

That's pretty much what I'm saying. He's skilled, but hasn't proven much yet.

expected better from hardy

he dropped like a sack of potatoes :(

Decent event, I'm shocked Hardy lost & I'm even more shocked he lost by KO on the feet.
I suppose it was ignorant to dismiss what Condit had on his feet.. he rather has underated striking ability because he isn't technically 'famous' for it.

Bisping had a great fight, probably the best I've seen him in the UFC. Great technical striking.

Last night was alright. Nothing special.

One thing I learned last night, I hate watching Kongo fight.

I knew Condit would win, Hardy is nothing special.

Hardy's one of my favorite fighters. It sucked to see him get KO'd, but yeah, your right, he is nothing special. No British fighter is, and they will never hold a title.

Condit is more well rounded than Hardy, dispite him getting KO'd I'd still say Hardy does have the better standup.. he just got clipped.

It was a shame to see Hardy get KO'd like that especally after such a strong show of heart against GSP who not only obviously frustrated Hardy at being able to take him down but being in those 2 very tight submission attempts by GSP.

Hope Hardy bounces back, entertaining fighter to watch both inside & outside the octagon.

UFC 121 is less than a week away, I can't wait. Card looks very solid.

I just saw Primetime: Lesnar vs Velasquez & I noticed Lesnar has got Pat Barry training with him at Deathclutch, very good addition. Velasquez mixes in some nice leg & head kicks into his combos & if theres anyone who can help Brock prepare for that it's Pat Barry who in my opinion probably has the most venomous leg kicks in the UFC.
Fight is gonna be great whoever wins.

Also looking forward to seeing Kampmann vs Shields, Kampmann's one of my favourite fighters more recently. I thought he was very solid against Thaigo at UFC 115, showed great striking & grappling ability. A win over Shield's who is also coming of a good performance against Henderson, would no doubt put him within touching distance at getting a shot at GSP or Koscheck if Koscheck manages to shock the world.. Fitch is probably due the next shot but possibly after that.
