Spider-Man: Brand New Day General News and Discussion Thread

The title is promising in the way it reflects and captures the spirit of the No Way Home ending. But I'm not holding my breath.

Take this with a massive grain of salt but Production List has a listing for Spider-Man 4 with a synopsis. Neither Kingpin or Knull related but Vulture is returning? Given the title Brand New Day, it still gives off Multiverse vibes, especially with Doom's inclusion. The only thing off with the listing is them having the release date as July 10th, 2026. Which I guess it's possible it could get moved earlier in the month due to Nolan's movie.

It seems this Production Listing from October was right with the title. I wonder what other stuff is right with it :hmm:

While I blasted the whole One More Day and Brand New Day comics stuff back in the OTs , I am interested to see if the new film incorporates some of the newer characters as opposed to going back to the Romita and Lee era of Peter, MJ, Gwen , Harry, Norman etc .

While I very much love that era in Spiderman , it's been adapted several times since the 90s cartoon, on Film, and in Animation.

So, if the new movie leans into some of the relatively newer characters ( relatively, because they're nearly 20 years old at this point) from the comics , it will be interesting to see how they're handled in the new film.

I'm not familiar with his Brand New Day supporting cast from the comics , but I'll find out about them.

So I guess I missed this yesterday but apparently Destin referenced a specifc comic, Spider-Man: Most Wanted, when he talked about his son. This is an storyline during Chip Zdarsky's Spectacular run from a few years back. I've seen people on reddit speculate that this run could potential be an influence on this movie. And one character that was featured prominently in it was Teresa Parker, Peter's long lost sister. Obviously this isn't any type of confirmation but this could potentially be who Sadie Sink is playing.

Since we’re 17 years into this we know these movies are only the loosest of adaptations of / inspired by the comic books.
Raimi's Trilogy could be the closest to the Spider-Man comics.

If Holland and Zendaya were just costars I could maybe see them going with a “this here is the REAL Mary Jane” angle.

But his future wife? Nah. She’s his MJ, and his MJ she shall remain.
No matter what the Redditors say.

Here’s an idea.

If what you’re saying could possibly be adapted into this film, what if Sadie Sink’s from another universe where Peter had a sister or she was born instead of him, and a lot of the film is them basically bonding and connecting with each other due to Peter feeling really lonely and finding someone else to confide in with his secret identity, emotional trauma and pain after the events of No Way Home, like having the sister he never knew he wanted and giving him some semblance of a family connection again. Maybe there’s some aspects of her that reminds him of Aunt May. Then, by the end, due to some sort of Multiverse shenanigans, they both have to go their separate ways and say goodbye to each other, and that could end up being a really emotional scene.

I mean, a good portion of Shang-Chi was about exploring the family dynamics of the main character with his other family members, particularly with his sister, so that makes it even much more of a possibility that could be the case. I really think there’s some potential for some really good drama and emotional moments.

Asian actor? BIG role??

Time jump Ned confirmed. :o

I know some fans have wanted Mr. Negative, who is Asian in the comics. He’s been a significant part of the Insomniac Spider-Man game universe in recent years.

Past and present Spider-Man 4 casting call from gossip hound DanielRPK:

“New Female Lead - A sharp and free-spirited woman with a mysterious past. Strong-willed, intelligent, and not easily intimidated. SET Sadie Sink

Female Villain - 30s-50s, any ethnicity. A powerful and imposing figure. Seeking an actress with strong and commanding screen presence and depth. Negotiation with someone (doesn't say who)

New Male Role - A resourceful young man in his early 20s.
New Male Role - 30s-50s, any ethnicity. A no-nonsense authority figure who sees the world in black and white. Loyal, determined, and willing to cross lines to maintain order.”

I generally thought of Mr. Negative as a cool design from stories I didn’t pay attention to because if was the Brand New Day comic era…

…But his “corruption” ability actually sounds like it could be an awesome wild-card to add to a movie where he might otherwise be a ubiquitous mastermind villain, especially if Sink is playing any other type of super-powered character alongside Holland’s Peter, since that could mean making a subplot be one or both of them, frustrated and angered by a stressful situation, “giving in” to a corruption at a bad moment.

Just imagine this sort of stuff going on:

- Spider-Man is hunted by the authorities, even potentially some version of the Spider-Slayers, as a running subplot he can deal with, but that raises his stress and anger.

- Sink’s heroine has powers (either Spider ones, or mutant ones) and wants to get home (whether the X-Mansion or her own timeline), stressing her out as well.

- Mr. Negative is one major villain, maybe the major villain, but not the only one, and is waiting for Peter to reach his lowest point so he’ll do the most damage against Negative’s enemies… than he’s infect him.

I know they were on their multiverse bull**** with No Way Home, but they should’ve thrown Scorpion into the mix with the rest of the villains. Holland should’ve had one of his own adversaries to speak of.

I'd be surprised if Scorpion is a lead villain in the film, though , as one of several , the way he was in Homecoming, I could see.

I think Mr. Negative is far more likely as the main baddie than Scorpion is .

But, we'll see.

Scorpion works as either a main or secondary villain. You can easily have a Mr Negative and Scorpion movie. I just want him to comeback and fight Spider-Man lol

I'm not that surprised that they haven't used Scorpion. I don't know the guy who played Scorpion in Homecoming, and I don't think the mainstream audience would have been more excited to see him as a villain than Jake Gyllenhaal and the ones from non-MCU films. Imo, he wasn't giving a main villain energy in the screentime he had in Homecoming.

I think Scorpion is easy to bring back but I think he just ultimately got lost in the shuffle. The people behind these movies probably wasn't just interested in using him again and in a larger role.

An tho, that's just another set up that never paid out, in the MCU an it would be a shame for the actor to not get his shoot....

If the multiverse is in play, they could theoretically bring in a more traditional take on Scorpion (with a more known actor) if that was the main concern about using him again

Not that I'm suggesting that happens cause it would be doing him dirty... But, hypothetically speaking it is possible

The Sinister Six. Sony has been wanting it for over a decade now. :o
