OMG! My sister in law asked my parents for $5000 ( and they just got $20, 000 inherit

What you need to be doing is donating that money to SHH so we can have the best goddammned geek site in existence. I'm talking full blown flash presentations, interactive graphics, the whole nine.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought you meant your sister was in law, as in the legal profession. I was wondering why she'd even need $5000. :p

So she asked for more, not a big deal. I am so glad that your parents said no to her. That should be the end of it. It would have really sucked if they did give in to her.

My brother-in-law's wife squanders money away on meaningless crap like there's no tomorrow. Gifts for all her friends whenever she takes their four kids on long, extended trips (often without my bro-in-law, who's a really nice guy). Gifts for all her friends at Xmas (and no gifts at all for my brother-in-law's family including his folks and my wife, even though we spoil their kids). New wardrobe for herself several times a year. New car every year. New furniture. All this on a Navy man's salary. (She usually waits until he's out to sea to pull this crap, so he can't stop her.). The last time he was out at sea for two months, the furnace broke and the basement flooded and she left it all like that for two weeks until he got back because she'd spent ALL the money he'd left for her and the kids to live on while he was at sea, and none of it went to the bills like the mortgage, utilities, insurance payments, etc. I feel sorry for my bro-in-law. Poor bastard. She's got him locked in with those kids and he feels pretty damn trapped, I am sure.

Deathlok, you've squandered away half of your inheiratance, and the way you're going I bet you won't have a dime of it in a year. So you're not in a position to ridicule another's spending habits. Do your handmade $650 glasses from France make your vision that much better? Better to see your HDTV with? I see better than 20/20 with my $200 Lens Masters and I am entertained just as well as you with my $500 non-HDTV.

My advice to you is to invest whatever you have left. Not in a savings, but in a vehicle that will get you at least 12 to 18% intest. At 12% interst your money is going to double every 6 years -- rule of 72 or compound interest, take 72 and divide it by the interest rate to find out how quickly it will compound. For example, 72/18=4. So at 18% interest your money will double every 4 years. That means in 2010, or by the time we see the next Batman movie, you'll have your $20,000 back. By the time Spider-Man 6 comes out in 2014, you'll have $40,000. 2018 you'll have $80,000. If you would have invested the entire 80,000 though, you'd have 160,000.:woot:

What should you invest in? Rule One is to invest in only what you know. You shoul dhave invested in Alan Milki instead of paying for their overpriced glasses. If you read comics and like the way they are doing things at Marvel, invest in Marvel. If you wear Pacific Sunwear stuff and they are showing growth as a company, buy PacSun. If you listen to an iPod, buy Apple. If you drink Cherry Coke every day, buy Coke. By the way, all of these companies have been showing returns of over 18%.

It's really sad what money does to a family.

Grow Up. Its your parents money, not yours. They are adults and can do what they want. Its also none of your business what your brother and his wife do with their money. Speaking of your brother, how come you dont mention him? Did your sister in law force him to "squander" his share?

My brother says nothing. He keeps his mouth shut. Thats why he is not mentioend.

Does your brother do anything to keep his wife in check, though? Does he just let her spend all the money she wants to? Does he know she goes and asks your folks for money like that? He's as responsible as she is, you know.

WTF.... why cant people freakin read! I PUT down a LUMP SUM PAYMENT ON MY MORTAGE.... GOT IT.... HOW IS THAT squanderING..............I DID PURCHASE SOME NICE THINGS FOR MYSELF, BUT YOU HAVE TO LIVE.

LUMP SUM PAYMENT ON MORTAGE... GO BACK & READ IT DUDE!

MY SISTER IN LAW DID THE SAME THING YEARS AGO. SHE ASKED MY MOM FOR $20,000 FOR NEW FURNITURE FOR THEIR HOUSE! AFTER MY PARENTS PAID FOR THEIR $20,000 WEDDING.

and yes, I did set up an investment account with a bank to buy & sell stocks online. I gave my friend a stock tip ( apple) over 1.5 years ago & he made out well. He made $3000 in 11 months. I use macs & I know apple & I am going to invest in them.

You don't need HDTV and $650 handmade French glasses to live. With that reasoning, you have no grounds to b'tch about your sister-in-law. Using your logic, she obviously also needs to go to Disneyland and a urn for her cat to live.

I gave you sound advice on what investing really entails, but you'd rather get pissed off and defend your frivolous purchases.

Whoever gave your mom that inheritance knew how to invest. I bet he wasn’t buying ***** glasses and HDTVs. And he went without for what? So some snot-nosed brat could blow his share and b'tch about his niece's spending habits?

no, your right, I do not need HDTV & french glasses, but then again, you dont need comic books to live either & all the action figures & comic tee shirts... so wtf?

ANd 1 of my friends is exactly like you, he also gave me good investment advice, which I took! remember? I set up an investment account!

you also dont need an internet connection, computer, monitor, comic book sites to live .... what a waste!

You're too obtuse to see my point.

In your first post you criticized your sister-in-law for her spending habits and immediately incriminated yourself for the same poor habits. And then you rationalized your poor spending choices by saying that you require them to live.

my poor habits? LOL... dude, why are you wasting your time here? what a waste! and that computer, monitor, printer, etc, /... OMG! what a waste! you have to keep upgrading it! and all those comic books! total waste of $$$$$$$

OMG!

Explain to me how all your comic books/action figures/comic posters/comic tee shirts/etc are NOT a waste of $$$ as you defined them??????

EXPLAIN!

JESUS CHRIST, WHY ARE YOU NOT EXPLAINING??????????

You're in no position to demand anything of me.

First of all, calm the hell down. Second of all, how do you know I spend money on comic toys, posters and t-shirts? Besides that isn't the point.

You started this with a tirade about your sister-in-law and then went on to prove yourself no better.

Glad you got the inheritance. I see that it has brought your family closer together.:whatever:

Well, if someone is going off aout how wasteful an HDTV tuner is or $650 glasses are, then explain to me how purchasing comic books that you read once & store away in little boards & bags ( YET ANOTHER EXPENSE!!!) IS NOT wasteful? ( ACCORDING TO THAT PERSONS DEFINATION)

Deathlok, you probably should shut up if you don't want to make any more of an ass out of yourself, if that's even possible.

NOW YOUR TRYING TO CHANGE THE POINT THAT YOU MADE. How is this entire comic book thing NOT wasteful?

How?

tell me/........

and you use a computer & internet connection, how is that not wasteful? how? I want to know......
