On October 31, the world population will be 7 billion

We need a new planet to live on.It's getting crowed on Earth.

New Earth aka Planet Bob.

Now someone correct me if I am wrong, but in order for us to sustain our resources the earth should have been 5 billion as it's absolute max population?

I'm not sure about that. But I would say we might be a tad over populated.

We need to build Atlantis before we start heading to the stars. After the seas are terraformed it will be time for Moon Base Armstrong!

With current technology and limitations, yes. We can advance a lot further and have less impact with more people though the way things are going that will be a long time from now.

Damn. I remember it hitting 5 billion when I was a kid. That wasn't even 20 years ago (or maybe just barely). What the hell... Can we institute a global one-child policy?

I think China has something like that. Like 2 kids per couple. I had 3. Not by choice. My wife got pregnant while on birth control! Somethings just can't be stoped...like my sprems!:rimshot:

I think China still has a one-child policy in place. And I wasn't being serious about a global one-child policy. I mean I kinda was. But not really.

......

I really was.

You only got one shot. Make it count! :word:

The problem with instituting these policies is what China is dealing with now. I think it's 3 males per every female born now or higher. So you'll end up with an artificially created imbalance of male to female children who eventually will cause a shift in the balance of reproduction and potentially do severe damage to the human genome.

It's still a good idea to have a limit on children but imposing one and especially limited to one child is a mistake as many cultures still favor male offspring to female. Also, those countries with the greatest number of children are mostly poor and need to produce a lot of children to offset that kind of living. Look at the greatest population centers. Now look at the poverty level of the average citizen.

The better solution is to bring them up to a higher quality of living, not tell them to stop having so many kids.

...that's a hell of a lot of people.

Wow, yeah that's a lot of people. The thing is if we ever do spread out in space one day, populating other planets or oceans, that will only increase the speed of human reproduction. Give humans 100 years populating space, and we'll be a plague. Aliens will fear us for we are many.

Everything wrong with this. I'm beginning to hope that the 2012 lunatics are right.

Hardly, we have the resources to support the people and birth rates won't go up infinitively. This is merely a product of modernizing third world nations (which increases life expectancy) but modernization also brings eventual reduction in birthrates.

Before WWII the concern was that populations were decreasing, which were going to destroy economic growth (another canard).

Hmm. I'd better buy some more candy, then.
