A funny take at those people who bask in listening to all underground music, and refuse anything that's mainstream. Anyone know these types? I had a few of these guys in HS. Buncha scrubs I tell ya.

Most mainstreem stuff does suck, but to ignore all of it is just stupid. Sometimes good bands actually do get attention but alot of it is just the new catchy pop/hip-hop song that everybody will listen to until the next one comes out and the old one is forgotten lol. When the popular rap song is about Grills or a Chain it just kinda seems stupid. Its like they ran out of **** to rhyme about and so they look at their jewlery and start talking about it.... and it becomes the newest hit. Jurassic 5 and Jedi Mind tricks are the rap I like. As for Alt. Rock, I dont like many new bands, sometimes a great band like 311 will get a hit but these are few and far between. Im sure there are plenty of talented bands geting noticed but I've only found a few of them on the singles charts. Fast Reggae-Hiphop (aka DeeJaying) like Sean Paul seems to have taken over Reggae, which is a shame I dont really listen to much pop so I cant comment on that. Anybody else think this way?

i havn't listened to the radio in eons...so i have no clue if the music i listen to is popular or not...some of it i'm sure is, other stuff i'm sure isn't.

I hope the TC isnt refering to people like me in your first post though. Personally, I just listen to what I like. I could care less about how popular it is. I do know of people who like music less if it is popular and I think that is stupid.

It just turns out that none of my music gets played on the radio...

well, maybe some of it such as some metallica, disturbed, rob zombie etc...but none of my real favorites.

Haha! PLAS' music recommendation thread has turned into some conversations a hell of a lot like that. Some of the folks in there really like obscure, unknown bands. And, though I really like most of those folks, there is a certain amount of musical snobbery that goes with that sort of territory.

My favorite line in this thing wasn't the Word document line (though that was pretty funny). It was the

"I've liked them since they first began."
"You mean their first album?" "
No, their second."
"I thought you said you liked them since they started?"
"They started with the second."

I know people who think like that about music.

that about sums it up for me... i like some underground stuff (the good stuff) but i refuse to listen to or like a band just because no one's heard of them... the same way i refuse to hate on mainstream music just because everyone listens to it.

It makes all the sense in the world. The music you like says a lot about what kind of person you are. I'd really have nothing to say to someone who likes a lot of ****ty bands and we sure as hell wouldn't be able to hang out or enjoy a sexual relationship.
If I met a girl who honestly loved Yanni and John Tesh, without a hint of irony, there's no need for us to go any further. She's gross and stupid regarding music and if she's capable of liking that cheez, then the chances are very, very high that my skin will crawl when she tells me what her favorite comedians, movies, books and TV shows are.
I like to spend time with people who have similar interests to mine....and while no one has the exact same taste in everything, one person's taste can be diametrically opposed to another's.
