OOPS! Turns out you should never question a bank

Oh yeah...

the full amount of money being paid for the making of this album will be close to 40 thousand dollars. This was a 25% deposit to get the ball rolling on making it.

Well, my wife ordered some stupid pills a month or so ago... and we charged for the free trial... after this company screwing around with her for a month, she went to our bank, talked a manager... she then called up the company, and with the manager listening, the operator told her that they would refund the money.. the manager then took the phone and told them who he was, and that this was going down as "fruad" and that their legal department would be handeling them... this company, after 8 weeks of side stepping, finally paid up due to the bank helping out...

um... forty thousand dollars... yeah.... thats why... it's not like you were depositing 20 bucks...

when someone comes in, depositting serious money like that... you have to fill out those forms and show proper idnetification...

I thought that was common knowledge...

what's next, complaining that you ahve to show an ID when paying with a check at a retail store

after doing some googling.... 1 of 3 things is going on

1) your lieing about "your friend"
2) You don't have all the facts, because what is going on is illegal
3) The employer is commiting an illegal act

It isnt 1) I can tell you that much. Though I love how you did "friend", as if it's unbelievable that I have friends. I will admit that I may not have all the facts, since this isnt happening to me.

The card he is FORCED to use by his employer is run by ADP...and they DO charge an activation fee that is taken from your paycheck, and they DO charge to have your money direct deposited into another bank account.

Here is an article I found about ADP running a scam...

why doesn't he get a checking account through a regular bank?

so, knowing more now... this is the story

I went into the bank today to deposit 40k into a producer's account for a band's new album.

They asked for my ID and I gave it...then asked..."why do you need my ID?".

She said "it's for the government".

She then asked for my social security card, and I gave it

yeah,....... so, what's the problem... that is NORMAL procedure....

Actually, it was a ten thousand dollar deposit...25% of the total...

And I am POSITIVE that there are many, many retail stores and other businesses that deposit WAY more than 10 grand a night. And again, I am not a person depositing money in a persons account. This is a CORPORATE account. There is nothing suspicious about a corporation that makes $40 thousand per job (actually we got it cheap...its much more than that usually) getting a deposit of 10 grand.

If you DO think it's odd...even criminal...that a corporation should get a deposit of a mere 10 thousand dollars, then you should wake up to the fact that major corporations get deposits of MILLIONS...and there's nothing wrong with that.

I know of no bank that asks for your Social Security card.

why doesn't he get a checking account through a regular bank?

You arent listening...HE HAS ONE. The company he works for automatically deposits the money into an account he does nt want, and he has NO control over that, other than quitting his job. This account that he doesnt want charges him for every activity where he attemots to get information or access to his money.

Again...HE CANT CHANGE BANKS UNLESS HE QUITS HIS JOB. THE CORPORATION FORCES THEIR EMPLOYEES TO USE ADP.

they can't do that... I just looked it up...

but back to the point on hand...

Heretic is mad... that when he went to deposit a 40k check, and the bank asked for his ID and SS Card... also considering, his name is not on the account of the check, or on the account recieving the check..??

yeah.....

If they need your records for government reasons, I don't see why they wouldn't ask for it...

I understand that and have no problem with it. However, when I, as a customer, ask for the reason WHY they need it, I should not be flagged for an FBI and IRS investigation...as i said initially, I gave them my card and THEN asked why they needed it, just out of curiosity, mostly.

$10K check...not $40K check. It's still at the level that is reported to the guvment though.

your right.,... I read it wrong.... I thought 40k was 25%

but yeah, also considering his name is not on either account... when that happans, red flags are raised... and it's not like they asked you for a blood sample or a retnal scan....

You still dont get it...it was a 10 thousand dollar deposit...and a mere employee of a corporation should not be asked to give up their info when making a deposit.

Here's a scenario:

A Shell station closes it's register at the end of the night, and made 10 thousand dollars. They ask one of their employees to deposit the money. The employee does, and is asked for his IDs. He gives over the info but asks why he had to...and the FBI and IRS are called on him...

This is basically EXACTLY what happened. Why should an employee by involved with the deposit to such an extent??? And when they ask why they are, why does the bank then take a step beyond and have their entire lives turned upside down with investigations???

Under your logic, every employee or every store, business or whatever that makes their deposits should be questioned by the federal government.

You're being kind of dense here. He doesn't have a problem giving them everything they want, however, if asked for an explanation they should oblige such a request.

I think you're overreacting a little. I highly doubt they flagged you for anything. Just seems like they just wanted you to shut up.

so an FBI agent came there, and interigated you? That's what your acting like?

You went to a bank, with a large check to deposit... who's to say you didn't steal that check, or counterfit it... the bank was having you show identification... that's it..

Yes.

Money laundering is not my field of expertise, but I understand that if it's a problem then the government needs to keep an eye on it. I have NO PROBLEM giving up my info. My problem is solely with the fact that when I asked why, I was rudely cut off, and then reported to the feds.

And for the record...when making an album, 10 thousand dollars is NOTHING. I deposited 2 thousand dollars the other day into an account for the freaking cover photo!!! The money that goes into these things is insane, but hardly comparable to the money a huge corporation makes daily.

Did you read the original post? He has an issue because the bank clerk stated that because he was asking so many questions that the government was going to check all his personal accounts and investigate the deposit. Which sounds like ******** to me, but that's the part he has an issue with.
