Comics Organic or mechanical?

Before Spiderman 1 came out I heard a rumor that spidey would have organic webbing but needeed the web shooters to gain more control over the webs i.e accuaracy ,different forms of webbing etc. I wonder how that would have played out

Aloha,
Peter's ability to make a web shooter that enhanced his organics would have been a decent compromise. It would have sold millions in toy web shooters. You can bet that Sony is beating themselves with the fact that the Light Saber was one of the biggest toys to come from a movie EVER. With a web shooter designed by a teenager, EVERY KID would have wanted one.Maybe when the Sony contract runs out and Disney/Marvel get the rights back, we'll see a change.

Yup, at Comic Con of 2001, they showed a montage of clips including a brief snipit of Tobey putting on the webshooter, as seen below. The model pics are from E3 IIRC. Pics in spoilers tags...

thanks for the pics venom those web shooters look so cool shame they weren't put to use

the mechanical web shooters do highlight peter’s intelligence and are a distinguishing trait and so forth. they also create drama when he runs out.

however, i prefer the organic webbing. we’re talking about a comic book here. if peter can develop four abilities as a spider, then why not all five?

you wouldn’t have to worry about web cartridges. you would basically have an unlimited natural supply. he is spider-man after all. i think the organic webbing completes that.

I would only be in favor of organic webs if Spidey shot it out of his butt like a real Spider.

Y'know... for realism's sake. :o

as you would know, spider-man and his world are pure fantasy. while based in semi-reality, there is nothing inherently real about either and should not be treated or viewed as such.

i'm more than happy to turn off my mind and accept organic webbing emits from peter's wrists. it's not that much of a suspension of disbelief compared to the other fantastical goings on present in the series.

Dude, I was joking.

Honestly though, mechanical all the way. Spidey's powers should not differ from what Lee and Ditko bestowed on him, because the new stuff like stingers, organic webbing and the ability to see in the dark never last and often come off as silly gimmicks. Remember how often Peter actually used those stingers after "The Other"? Like twice.

Now, I know organic webbing is not the same as those other add-ons, but it's the same concept; trying to fix what aint broken.

sorry. it's hard to tell sometimes with some folks. especially online.

i do agree with you about the stingers. as well as the eyes and teeth. they are pointless, unnecessary and push things way too far.

the organic webbing, however, extends an existing original idea. the webbing has always been a part of the character, the reasoning behind it just changed.

i know your stance on the matter and i can see where you're coming from with your concept. it's just that the organic webbing does it for me.

the mechanical are great for drama when he runs out of webbing during a fight

Mechs is the only logical human way of adapting spider webbing. They're a great idea. Sorely missed in the films.

So much better than simply switching spider organs into a human. Gross and uninspired!

are they really, though? i don't think they are. the webbing is still being used, just with a different explanation behind it's origins.
