Original Batman Movies Timeline

I always wanted to know what period of time did the original 4 films take place. They looked like 1940sish but also mixed in with the modern day 1980s/1990s stuff aswell. Just want to know what time period the films took place in?

A lot like Batman: The Animated Series, it's pretty impossible to tell, and we're not supposed to.

The architecture and cars, etc suggest 30's-40's, while the technology Batman has (jets, D.N.A. devices, lasers, etc) suggest modern or even future times.

The supercomputer can do just about anything, yet the televisions are in black and white.

It's meant to be ambiguous and in a sense, timeless.

Precisely. It's not meant to fall into any period, it's a timeless film. A alternate period on an alternate universe.
