I firmly believe that upon DelToro's Oscar win tonight that it will greatly affect the budget and production of Hellboy 2. Not only will this film be a guaranteed success (mainstream will be anticipating his follow up) but Universal will re-assess the Hellboy project.

Perhaps allowing an even bigger, epic Hellboy2 than originally projected. DelToro has always been a respected director but after tonight's win will catapult him into a different arena than before. Universal has a wonderful option to capitalize on that success.

Personally I think the budget will be raised and Hellboy2 will be very epic.

It's smart financially and creatively.

Thoughts?

If he wins. Then yeah his budget might get shot up a few million.

Unfortunately, Pan's only got Art direction, makeup and cinematography. I truly feel GDT was robbed in the original script catagory. One can hope that with at least being nominated that he'll be able to get more for future projects, but I believe the budget for HB2 is already set.

Of you bet it will. It is all how it is marketed.

“Hellboy II: The Golden Army… Brought you by Guillermo Del Toro, the creator of the Oscar winning Pan's Labyrinth”

You bet your butt they are going to squeeze that in there. Not only to hype HB2 but to keep Pan's Labyrinth fresh in peoples minds for DVD sales.

It is sound marketing and a tool you just don’t ignore.

Even if PL had won one of the big one's i dont think the budget for HB2 would have been raised. HB1 barely made its budget back at the cinema so i think Universal have the right to be cautious, which they seem to be doing.

I'm not saying they're not going to use it to squeeze every dime they can get out of the general public, just that the budget for HB2 is already set.

As much as I liked Hellboy, I must agree.

And Pan's didn't do great in theaters, I doubt a budget will increase dramatically because he won the 3 oscars.

Exactly, while i would love them to raise the budget for HB2, i just cant see it.

I'm not sure what world you're living in, but actually, Pan's Labyrinth did extremely well for a film of its type. From what I understand it is the top grossing Spanish indie film ever released. It's most assuredly in the black, so I wouldn't be dissing a movie just because it didn't make a billion openning weekend.

An oscar ups the reputation for everybody and everything. The movie will probably be more recognized as a hollywood box office hit. I enjoyed the 1st one, and Guillermo Del Toro has always been one of my fav

Possibly, but i still cant see them raising the budget for HB2

Everybody knows that dvd sales are where the real money is. Hellboy was a huge success on dvd, which is why they were allowed a sequel in the first place. how do you think Uwe Boll is allowed to touch a camera? Everybody who wouldn't pay to see it in a theater rented or bought it and so they made enough in the end to give him another shot. They will only invest whatever they think they will get back, in which venue they do this is irrelevant.

i think it will effect the movie in the yes, the budget could get pushed higher, but im fearing that everyones expectations with GdT's noms that the film will be better than it actually could be. im getting more excited, but my expectations will never cross a certain point where i think its going to be like Titanic big
