Part Two of the Greg Weisman/Josh Keaton Podcast Interview

you could basically use his argument for any character including Spider-man

that's not true, any character with a history or a persona before the accident/experiement changed them into a villian I would say the character is fundamental. otto/doc ock, norman/gg eddie/venom etc.

in the case of the shocker it is basically a man in a suit and his character outside of the suit didn't bring enough to the table to warrent keeping, you could in fairness argue this for sandman and rhino but SSM developed marko and o'hirn outside of the costume.

I really can't understand why the issue of the Shocker is repeated again and again. We all know that in Marvel, for the commercial continuation of the series we had like Hobgoblin I and II and III..., and there were like four Green Goblins, there was not even one Phoenix... and now the problem is that Shocker is not Herman Schultz in this magnificently done show. Even though the character himself, as said above, is insignificant for the story of Spider-Man, whereas the Shocker is. And I haven't seen the Shocker even once outside his suite in the comics, not even in the previous show which is so praised here now. Even there we didn't know a single thing about the Shocker: his name, the origin of his technology, even the real nature of those gloves... was that vibration, sound, or white lasers... nothing was mentioned, but no one complains about that, because that's "THE" 90's Show, in which Carnage was in alliance with Dormamu and Mordo, in which the Vulture became the Human-Spider, or in which Mary Jane and the Goblin were trapped in some kind of 'dimension'... those were all stupid solutions for the prolonging a story, not to mention the ever annoying repeat of shots and scenes, the horrible animation, and the all-fit-muscular enemies. (why Doctor Octopus needed such muscles? He is a scientist, he even has four mechanical arms... the nature of the character is that he is a little and a fat man, but that's the paradox oh his unique character... aside his look he has those arms which make him on of the greatest villains, and in the 90's show, because he was the leader of the Six (not to mention that they were "Insidious") he had the biggest muscles)

yah and you really can say that about any other character. Why not make Spider-man some guy named Michael Smith? you can have him act the exact same way Peter Parker does, its not like Peter Parkers name changes the guys personality.

Yeah, Josh said the quality of the writing in one of the episodes in the symbiote arc is brilliant, he said we'll know which episode he's talking about when it airs.

Now if that ain't a good sign of things to come, eh?:word:
Agreed, it's going to be so amazing, Web-Head.

Female viewership has increased 300% eh? Get ready for a whole lot of shipper AMVs...

I'm sure Greg would own you in any debate on this subject.

Seriously, what is it about Herman Schultz beyond the name that you miss?

Tell me what it is that is so great about Herman Schultz and I will personally pass it on to Greg Weisman, himself. Don't just say "you can use that argument about any character". Tell me about Herman.

BTW, this is open to Venomfan and only Venomfan.

what im hoping for are episodes that will have spiderman in the black costume but not have it be the focus of the episodes, hope what im saying doesnt confuse anyone.

It just won't play on my computer. I can't see it, can't hear it -- nothing. I'm glad it's worked fine for you, though. I hope you liked it.

I just wish I knew what they said.

That's weird. I just tried it and it didn't work. I think my computer hates me.

Come someone please let me know what some of the answers were? Any answers are very much appreciated.

whats so important about Otto Octavius, Mac Gargan, Max Dillon, Flint Marko? they never had a background before hand either?

Answer the question. What do you miss about Herman Schultz beyond the name?

i just answered it above in the form of a question. its the same as if they changed any of those other characters

No, you didn't answer. Be specific. What do you miss about Herman Schultz beyond the name?

flint marko - that's a fair comment, in the comic outside of the custome he was a petty thug whose origin was explained in a couple of panels.

max dillion - ditto

mac gargon - actually had a history before the scorpion, he was hired by jjj to discover how peter got the pictures of spider-man

otto - didn't have a history before the accident but his character after the accident has certainly been explored

imho they could have changed the first three but not otto his character is important because you need to see the change in personality before and after the accident.

No Spider-Man villain from the Lee/Ditko era had a background when they were introduced. Stan never gave them a backstory as to who they were and what made them tick as people before becoming villains.

Writers at Marvel gave the villains backstories later on down the line.

exactly, thats the only point i'm trying to make. The only reason Shocker was changed was because Weisman felt like it. there is no logical reason to it, and thats all i'm saying. It would have been better if Shultz was the Shocker, just because thats what we're used to. By what Weisman said i'm kind of surprised he didn't make Ox the Rhino, heck that actually almost makes sense, i mean he's pretty much got as much backstory as Shultz

what i find the wierdest is how in many people's eyes here, Weisman can do no wrong. i mean i love the series, but every episode has had its negative moments, yet so many people seem to think its absolutely perfect. So far i think Weismans done a great job, but he isn't perfect, there is no one that could make a perfect series. there have been a bunch of flaws in my eyes so far, but that doesn't mean i don't like the show. and its wierd how when i say i think something was stupid, people act as if i attacked their mother or something, and its not like Weisman actually cares what i think. heck spidey 1-2 are some of my favorite movies, and theres still tons of problems i see in them, such as Peter Parker acting in a way throughout them that he never has in the comics, except like the first issue.
I like Charles Schulz name better.

Seriously, will someone write down the highlights of future episodes for the show, in which they talked about.
all in all Hermen Shultz is a really stupid name, i can't imagine growing up with the name Hermen

mac gargon - actually had a history before the scorpion, he was hired by jjj to discover how peter got the pictures of spider-man.
ya i know that, but its really nothing important, it has nothing to do with his personality or w/e, any random bum could have been used by JJ for the Scorpion experiment and it would be the exact same

otto - didn't have a history before the accident but his character after the accident has certainly been explored
imho they could have changed the first three but not otto his character is important because you need to see the change in personality before and after the accident.
same thing, any random scientist could have been used.

thats it, like imagine if 3 months ago i came to this board and told everyone that Montana would be the Shocker. For one everyone would tell me i'm BSing it, but also every single poster would comment on what a stupid idea it is. They actually do that in the cartoon then, and all of a sudden its considered great, heck most here considered it great before they even saw it, just as soon as it was announced.

imagine if all those other characters were changed, i imagine people would be pissed, but going by the lot around here i'm sure most would end up saying "OMG that is fantastic, awesome news!!!"
I'm sure Greg would own you in any debate on this subject.
this is the same as saying my daddy can beat up your daddy
