Won't be as good as the 2008 'Passengers' movie. :o

Keanu Reeves' Passengers Gets 2015 Release Date
Keanu Reeves has been developing his sci-fi romantic drama Passengers for many years and it's finally paying off as the movie is going to get made with Rachel McAdams co-starring and with Brian Kirk ("Game of Thrones") making his feature film directorial debut.

The Weinstein Company picked up the distribution rights to the film before a frame was shot and now they've selected a date for its Dimension Films branch to release the movie, going with April 3, 2015.

Although 2015 is already getting incredibly crowded with big tentpole movies, oddly no movie has grabbed any dates in April as of yet, although Guillermo del Toro's ghost movie Crimson Peak is rumored to open that month (despite also having not started production yet).

Brian Kirk was set to start filming the movie in Germany on April 7th, but the start date has been pushed back by at least several weeks.
CAA will now shop the movie around to other U.S. distributors.

Sony Wins Auction For Jon Spaihts Sci-Fi Script ‘Passengers’

by Mike Fleming Jr

EXCLUSIVE: In its second major material buy this week, Sony Pictures emerged from a competitive situation with the rights to Passengers, the script by Doctor Strange scribe Jon Spaihts that is a big science fiction love story, set in deep space. Production president Michael De Luca oversaw the deal and Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur will produce through the Original Film banner along Michael Maher for Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.

Sony, which has been going through an agonizing period since computers at the corporation were hacked and documents released, has forged ahead. Earlier this week, the studio acquired the hotly contested rights to turn the NYPD corruption documentary The Seven Five into a narrative feature. Passengers takes place on a spacecraft transporting thousands of people to a distant colony planet has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger is awakened 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger, marking the beginning of what becomes a unique love story. Spaihts’ scripting credits include Prometheus, The Mummy reboot and Doctor Strange, the latter of which has Benedict Cumberbatch firmly set to star for Marvel.

Passengers has created a frenzy before. It once had Keanu Reeves and Rachel McAdams attached along with Game Of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire helmer Brian Kirk. Before that, Reese Witherspoon had been expected to play the female lead, and The Weinstein Company bought in a big deal at 2012 Cannes. All the while, Moritz had been tracking it and when it became free, he and De Luca were all over it. They are starting from scratch with the elements as none of those stars or the filmmaker is attached now.

I still need to read this... I've heard nothing but RAVES for this spec.

Sony Engaging ‘Imitation Game’ Helmer Morten Tyldum For Space Saga ‘Passengers’

EXCLUSIVE: After his first English-language film The Imitation Game got eight Oscar noms including Best Director and Best Picture and trails only fellow Oscar nominee The Grand Budapest Hotel as the year’s biggest indie, director Morten Tyldum is in early talks to make his studio debut for Sony on Passengers, the script by Doctor Strange scribe Jon Spaihts.. This is a big science fiction love story, set in deep space, and it’s a major studio priority being overseen by production president Michael De Luca and produced by Original Films’ Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur and Michael Maher for Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films

Sony bought this project late last year while it engaged in all that turmoil, and it didn’t take long for it to bear fruit. Passengers takes place on a spacecraft transporting thousands of people to a distant colony planet and has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers.

Passengers once had Keanu Reeves and Rachel McAdams attached along with Game Of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire helmer Brian Kirk. Before that, Reese Witherspoon had been expected to play the female lead, and The Weinstein Company bought in a big deal at 2012 Cannes. Moritz tracked it through all its twists and turns and he and DeLuca pounced when it became available. They’ll start from scratch on cast, but they will build a star package.
Tyldum is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Michael Schenkman.

I heard that the original choices to star were Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn.

Oh great, now Twitter will never stop fapping. :o

Chris Pratt in line to play the male lead in every most high budget movies.

Lawrence signing on is probably the best chance of this film actually getting off the ground.

Even if it's not Passengers Pratt and Lawrence literally need to star in something together.

Pratt will very soon be as overexposed as Lawrence has been in recent years so I guess it's a logical pairing.

I'm surprised Tom Rothman wants to cut the budget down, considering the talent involved. Whatever one thinks of Jennifer Lawrence, she's a bankable star at the moment. $20M is exorbitant for a secondary role, but props to her and her agents for standing their ground.
