Paul W.S. Anderson headed for POMPEII.

“The differences, and why I was interested in the role, were that Milo is completely set on vengeance rather than honor and justice,” Harington said. “He’s an angry, angry man who doesn’t care what he does. For a large part of the film, he’s driven by pure rage.”

So why's this girl interested in him again?

^You just answered your own question.

Well, I'm a female, and I'm NHF a man with rage issues.

So, this sounds kind of interesting, except that Anderson is the director. I really hate his recent films.

the girl look like a mix between Mia Sara(Legend) and Emily Browning(Sucker Punch).

looks very cheap. but thats PA. he is trying to make a big scale movie with a low budget and bad action. no and NO.

Bloody 'ell Adewale's lost some weight!

This looks fun. Or at the very least better than usual Anderson. Still, the guy made Event Horizon and Death Race, so I'm always willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I've watched Event Horizon twice and I still don't see a good movie. It's just another one of Anderson's cheesy not so covert Alien rip-offs. I do have a soft spot in my heart for Mortal Kombat though. The trailer was okay, Harrington's abs look more appealing than anything else.

Never knew Anderson made Event Horizon. It's kind of a crappy movie but for some reason I really like it. Deep space horror is a tough nut to crack but its a genre that I really tend to enjoy if I feel that it's done well. I loved Pandorum, for example.

Anyway... this movie will probably be awful because Anderson sucks most of the time and it comes out in February. Still, it has Jon Snow and Emily Browning so I'll likely give it a shot.

I like Event Horizon, and I don't really agree that it is an Alien ripoff, they seem quite different to me. What is funny is that PTA changed the antagonists of the film from aliens to pseudo-demonic creatures SPECIFICALLY to avoid being compared to Alien.

You mean PWSA. Never confuse one with the other. By penalty of death.

Mortal Kombat was awesome.

Event Horizon was awesome.

Solider is very underrated.

The first Resident Evil (for all intents and purposes, pretend it's a separate entity from the games) is a damn awesome film. The sequels not so much. But that first movie is definitely solid.

So, eh, I don't know. I don't mind him.

personally, the only film i dig by him is Mortal Kombat. hated all the Resident Evils, hated AvP, Soldier is harmless enough but not very well-made, his Three Musketeers film was a boring mess, etc. not one of his films has ever had a fully developed character, in my opinion (maybe i should blame all the screenwriters involved but, still, there's a lot a director can do to improve the characterizations). he varies from obnoxiously over-stylized to almost no style at all in his movies. none of his films feel like they have a consistent point of view or focus to their storytelling. after Mortal Kombat, which works mostly just cuz it's schlocky, effective fun, Event Horizon is probably his next best film just because it's the most stylistically accomplished and cohesive and has a nicely moody atmosphere. still couldn't give a **** about any of the characters or the actual story, though.

now, are there worse directors out there? yeah, quite a few actually, but i think what bugs me about W.S. is that he trades in genres i typically have affinity for, projects that i'd be excited about in the hands of someone else. with him at the helm, though, i can pretty much guarantee myself dislike or indifference. thankfully, in this case i already couldn't care less about a movie involving Pompeii, so it's whatever.

The trailer was OK. It looks like it will be a decent peplum.

PS : Event Horizon is a great horror film, the ship design was nice and the hell black hole drive a good concept.

based on the trailer, Pompeii looks like another addition to the half of PWSA's oeuvre that looks very grey and under-exposed (see also: Soldier, AvP, Three Musketeers). it's like this weird phenomenon with him. i suppose here it sort of fits the subject matter and all but, gosh, do i find it dull to look at.

One thing I don't like is how close Pompeii is to Mt Vesuvias. Maybe I need to watch the trailer again when I get home from work but it looked like Pompeii was at the base of Vesuvias. Herculaneum was actually closer.

Any speculation about the Rating? The expensive cost might make it PG 13.

No way is it gonna be rated R. It's trying to go the Titanic route.

Yeah. Even the structure will be similar I am guessing. I guess it opens with an expedition discovering dead bodies and then a flashback to how it all happened. Love story in the first half, followed by destruction in the second.

i hope the film ends with a scene of Kit Harrington stretching out his arms as he stands on the edge of the volcano, looking at the horizon, and he yells, "I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD," and that's when she blows. The End.

Super Hi Res version of the first still now released (click for full size).
