I was having a lovely conversation an the Nightmare on Elm Street boards about personal "fanons." (I promise this will relate to Batman.)

For some reason, in her mind Freddy Krueger hates caramels. When he's eating candy for whatever reason, he avoids caramels, and is disgusted(as disgusted as Freddy could be) when he eats a caramel...sort of like how some people avoid coconuts.

Anyway, we got onto the topic of the Riddler. And she mentioned in passing that the Riddler loves 7-11 Slurpees.

I quirked my eyebrow and was all, "Um, when is that mentioned?"

And she shrugged, and essentially told me that there was absolutely nothing in the canon that could prove the Riddler's slurpee obsession one way or another. It was just something she always pictured regarding the Riddler. To her, it was as canon as Batman being Bruce Wayne. And that got me thinking of my own personal "fanons." Here goes:

- The Couple Esther and Tucker Cobblepot pass by in the Park were Thomas and Martha Wayne.

- Alfred was a WWII vet.

- Carl Grissom was just a pseudonym for Rupert Thorne.

Anyone else have their own peculiar fanons?

I don't know if this necessarily counts as a 'fanon' since it was my understanding that a 'fanon' had to be a unsubstantiated opinion shared by several people, but to be honest I find the more personal speculations the most interesting. Anyway, here's one of mine for Batman Returns:

- Max Shreck killed his late wife/Chip's mother, because she was either (a) having an affair with his murdered business-partner, Fred Atkins, or (b) had found out about Max's shady business deals and since it was her family's money that had helped Max establish his company she had consequently threatened to seize control of the business as a means of maintaining her wealthy family's 'good name'; or even better it was a mixture of (a) and (b) that prompted Max to kill his wife. I also like to think that unbeknownst to Max, Chip was actually Fred Atkins' son which would add a delicious irony to Max's efforts to maintain his 'legacy' at all costs.

I always assumed Shreck killed his wife as well.
