PETA asks Committee on Bible Translation to use more animal-friendly language in Bible

By: Kristal Roberts

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, have a new bone to pick, and it’s with the Holy Bible.

According to the Daily News, the animal activist group says that the language in the Bible referring to creatures isn’t “animal-friendly” enough.

In a letter written to the Committee on Bible Translation, PETA called the Bible’s current references to animals "speciesist". They are asking the committee to refer to animals with pronouns such as “he” or “she” as opposed to "it".

Those in favor of this change believe that referring to an animal as “it” takes away the animal's “special, God-given identity”.

"The public now recognizes that animals are feeling, intelligent individuals, capable of joy and suffering," PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich said in the letter.

The special request came after the 2011 New International Version was released with updates that were more gender-inclusive, using nouns like "he", "she" and "they" instead of the traditionally male dominating references, "he" and "him" throughout the Old and New Testaments.

look i'm all for animal rights but these wankers do nothing but hurt they're cause:lmao:

this is the most ******ed thing i've ever read... some people need to sterilized.

I talked it over with my dog. She seems to be fine with the way it is.

Hah... that's funny. They probably want the Old Testiment Sacrefices edited out as well :)

Alright, let's say everything in the Bible is 100% true, how would we as a society know what the gender was of each animal in the big book?

I could almost see their point if it weren't for one huge problem. Animals can't read!

Well the Bible states anyone who takes away or adds to it's writings would receive the full wrath of God so...

I wouldn't want any parts of that! Think it over PETA!

Publicity stunt...... At least I hope for their sake it is. :csad:

yeeeaaaaahhh well i'm all for it!!!! :cmad:

This are the same people who want to rename fish "sea kittens".

While I agree with the sentiment of referring to an animal as a "he" or a "she", "it" works when the gender isn't known. Also, "it" is grammatically correct.

For the love of whomever...

Sometimes I can't wait for some asteroid to come by and end our existence. Some of this super sensitive BS is beyond ridiculous.

I always refer to an animal as "he" or "she" when I know its gender as well.

Oh, PETA you fail so much.

I love how they think they can change the bible. The bible thumpers will tear them a new one. "YOU DARE DISOBEY THE LAW OF GOD ALMIGHTY?!"

Maybe they'll destroy eachother :yay:.

Note to PETA:

1. Pick your battles.

2. More Pamela Anderson speaking out against KFC, less editing holy books.

I need a copy of the GOP Bible and now the Peta Bible.

When does the Star Trek Bible come out? A Dr. Who Bible would be great.

It's like all those different Monopoly games.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Shouldn't PETA be busy euthanizing stray puppies somewhere?
