Peter Jackson's Mortal Engines

Those images look nice. Has the guy written more books in the series since the first post?

There are four books in the series, all of which were published before Peter Jackson got the rights in 2009.

The first one, which is called Mortal Engines, is a self-contained story... but there is an open-ended aspect to it. Not at all a cliffhanger, and the story has a resolution, but Philip Reeve knew he planned on writing more so he built a world and a character relationship to that end.

I had no idea whether there was even an inkling of a thought of adapting the other Hungry City books, but given in the trailer they talk about this being a "new epic saga," there might be some intention of that if this movie does well.

Love the filmmaking here. Great energy, definitely taking some cues from Fury Road but combining it with some steampunk and anime flourishes. Can't get over that quick push-in on Hester's eyes as everything is going dark, the glow of London's gut giving her an eye light.

The designs are just phenomenal. Art direction and visual FX noms already look probable, and the movie's a year away! Love all the details on the traction cities, with that red eagle/dragon thing on the front of little Salthook and that side tower of mining cylinders that is swaying all over the place. The union jack on London's "mouth" and the lion statues and the clock towers and the elegance of London's rich upper tiers compared to the industrial grime and dirt of its lower levels. Could get lost in just looking at these two designs, can't wait to see the other traction cities and places that are in the book. This bodes very well for Airhaven being fire.

Hester is well realized. Can't wait to see the other characters like Jihae's air maven Anna Fang and Stephen Lang's decrepit cyborg Shrike.

Stoked.

I thought it looked pretty cool. The concept is really interesting.

Thanks for that

Man! Jackson needs to get busy making a God of War saga
That is something I would absolutely love to see. A hardcore epic mythology/fantasy mix with a crazy budget.

I'm not Jackson's biggest fan in the slightest but if theres a couple of things I give him credit for that I feel he outclasses every other director in, his sense of scale/adventure and his eye for action.

If he can change some of his sensibilities and have someone to keep in check from going overboard on things that aren't necessary to make a Hard R rated God Of War saga, I think it could potentially be the greatest saga in cinematic history.

When I heard about this I was expecting cities slowly crawling across the landscape. I was not expecting cities racing around like giant hot rods.

THis looks pretty awesome, definitely has my interest.

They live their lives one quarter mile at a time.

Kane52630 sometimes has uncompressed versions of trailers. PM him and ask him.

This looks absolutely amazing. This is definitely taking inspiration from Mad Max Fury Road (don't know anything about the source material tho) but that's actually a huge plus in my book. The teaser not only piqued my interest but it also made me eager for more stuff to come out. Really looking forward to this.

There wasn't enough meat to the trailer to get me excited, and the fact that it's a first time director doesn't do anything for me. Never read (or heard) of the book, and Jackson & Co's last four (five counting Tintin) left a lot to be desired.

I'm interested in seeing more footage, but I'll wait for the reviews before deciding to see this.

Just screened footage of Peter Jackson’s ‘Mortal Engines.’ Even the unfinished footage looks epic. I’m really intrigued by character played by Jihae. #CinemaCon

Just saw a trippy trailer for Mortal Engines. Looks like a hell of a genre mash-up; Dune meets Snowpiercer mixed with steampunk. I’m intrigued. #CinemaCon

MORTAL ENGINES footage is bananas. Got an almost BIOSHOCK INFINITE vibe to it? Wild.

Peter Jackson's #MortalEngines #CinemaCon trailer looks like cross between #LOTR and #TheMatrix. Not sure it's a great combo

Saw a teaser for this before Solo. Looks interesting but also a bit odd when there's zero context. Also... apparently the lead girl has been "prettied" up from how she appears in the book which is disappointing but also pretty standard.

Bumping this thread. Should be merged with the other thread.

I thaught this movie is directed by Jackson but in IMDB it says the movie is directed by Christian Rivers?

Correct. Christian Rivers has worked and trained with Jackson on all of Jackson's films.
