Is anyone here into photography? Do you use a digital camera?

I'm interested in getting into photography. What camera would one recommend? Are digitals very expensive?

I have a Sony Cybershot, it rules. As for cost, I don't know because Santa brought it to me. You can't go wrong with a Sony.

All i can afford is throw away cameras:(

I have a sony digital camera but when I worked on the yearbook in highschool...they had a very expensive camera and threatened my life if I broke it. I costed about $2000 if I remember right.

I worked on the paper in High school, and all I got to do was write. They didn't let me take pics...

But yeah, Photography is cool

Yeah I think it might be a really fun hobby to get into.

Sometimes when I'm about I'll see things I wish I could take a picture of; thats how the idea started.

Bleh, the year book at my school is crap. All the kids that take pictures just take them of their friends. So you just see the same stupid kids througout the whole thing.

Digital Camera's are so cheap, I got mine for like 350. I can take full video at high resolution, it has a pull out swivel viewfinder, and plenty of features that allow me to do things like take all of the color out of a video or image as i'm taking it, except for whatever i'm pointing it at and set it to. Also swapping that color with any other color on the spectrum, and just applying many other special effects and filters. Just keep in mind you'll have to fork out for a memory card, in my case I had to go with a gig since my camera is 5 megapixel and takes video at a high resolution too.

But you really only want that for fun and vacations, if you want to get into photography you need to get into more than just the point and click. This means darkrooms, actually getting to make prints the way you want. You need an SLR. I love my Cannon Rebel T1, and it's a deal at about 400 dollars. Though there is a newer Cannon Rebel G1 that my sister got because she was lucky enough to buy her camera a year later, when it came out. But, for many, an older Cannon or Olympo etc is nicer. People like the more mechanical style, and the more heavy and solid structure. It's really hard to break those. Plus, they are cheaper. Though as I always argue, i've got fully manual controls on my camera that work well.

Damn, that sucks. My school was pretty good about getting everyone fairly equally but it was small so there ya go.

350 DOLLARS?

I'm not sure I'd call that cheap... X_X

well you can get a low end one but i'm not sure you'll be happy with your photo's once you open them in photoshop, and you can kiss taking good video goodbye.

I want to get into photography, but I don't have the time or five hundred bucks to blow on a kickass camera. I want one with 7 megapixels. Maybe a couple thousand bucks to travel and build up a portfolio.

Hell, I make little music videos with my friends and edit them in premiere, but some of us are thinking pornography. What we do is so close to it anyway.

I photograph naked people when they're not aware. It's the only way.

Well money doesn't grow on trees.

One of my dreams is to go on the Appalachian trail, and I think it may be cool to take pictures of it.

installing mini-cams inside the toilets in the ladies room does not count as "photography".

I'd show you my finest but I think the Hype! frowns upon sodomy of the handicapped.

In color.
